“Heaven is a place on earth”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 29, 2013 via mobile

I've just amused myself for the last few minutes reading the negative comments on this place. These people obviously went in with an already concreted negative attitude because la iguana perdida has been my most favourite place I've stayed in all the countries I've ever been too and I've been traveling since I was 11. The staff are the nicest, most genuine people you've ever met. Even the newbies that had been working there for less than a week managed to make me feel comfortable and the staff that had been working there for a while welcomed me into the iguana family with open arms. Everybody there was so accommodating for everything ranging from my veganism to my late checkin, and hooking me up with a sweeto rasta man outfit for drag night! Mike even sat down with me and became my human dictionary. Olly took me on my first scuba experience ever and was super patient with me even through all the hyperventilation on my part. Jeff has some killer dance moves, especially rocking that Afro and bohemian scarf, dayum. Flo and Jeremy are beautiful musicians, they'll make you stop and realise even more how beautiful their side of the lake is. And Elaine is a sweetheart with some great jokes up her sleeve. The owners are doing an incredible job over there because they know how to attract the best travelers who are not their to scroll through their Facebook feed, but to live and love life. I honestly can't wait to return one day. Much love!

The staff was creative, good natured and efficient and they really threw a great Halloween party. The food was always tasty and healthy. The room was lovely (we were known as "the people in the palace" and it felt that way. The other guests were casual and friendly. All in all, it was a wonderful three days. Thanks Deedle, David, Flo, Chris, Tony, the Mayan cooks and all the rest of you guys.

Room Tip: Go for the Tolume!

This is my favorite place to go to escape from the chaos of Panajachel. I've been a few times and will continue going back for the remainder of my expat time at the lake. It has the perfect combination of tranquility and socializing. The family style dinners make it easy to talk to and meet new people, but you also have areas where you can relax on a hammock or sit to take in the scenery. The food is really great, especially the Saturday night dinner with delicious beet patties for vegetarians, as well as tons of side to choose from. They also have liquor infused with various fixings...a real treat! Friday nights are trivia nights...super fun. And Saturday nights things go a bit later with dancing. I love that I'm able to sleep in at the Iguana...no roosters or mopeds waking me up super early like in Pana. And there are many different types of rooms...a wide range to meet every traveler's budget. There are lots of pretty half day hikes you can take to other towns, which lead you along paths overlooking the lake. I rented kayaks from a place nearby, which was amazing...so there is lots to do during your stay. Can't recommend it enough! Just ask the staff for suggestions...everyone there is very friendly and helpful.

My lady and I stayed here a couple weeks ago in a private room. The room was huge and clean. The staff is laid back and super fun to hang around with after you get dome on the lake. Chris and Rosh were always super helpful and cool to talk too. Tony was awesome and gave me a hot tip on where to get some custom boots in Pastores. All in all there is probably not a better place to stay on the lake.

Room Tip: Private rooms have smoking hot showers!

Stay here. You will have a wonderful experience, it is so much prettier than Panajachel or San Pedro. The walk from Santa Cruz to Tsununa was one of the most beautiful walks I have ever taken. Love the community dinners as well.

Room Tip: We loved the room Atitlan! Worth the spluge.

Just stayed at La Iguana for the second time, and I'll keep coming back. I've traveled all over Guatemala for more than 10 years, and this place has hit the perfect balance for me between good service, friendly vibe, and relaxed atmosphere, I love it. Surprising for me, the owners, Deedle and Dave, remembered me from when I stayed and took dive lessons a year ago. I stayed in one of the nice rooms with a view, Toliman, very comfortable with a great bathroom and it's own balcony with hammock. The 3-course family style dinners are great, excellent quality food and good conversation with travelers from all over the world. The helpful and friendly staff here do a good job of making your stay enjoyable. I even got to enjoy an open-mic party night in the bar, which was a lot of fun. I hope I can come back soon!

Room Tip: The 2 upstairs fancy rooms, Atitlan and Toliman, are definitely worth the few extra dollars they cos...

The staff is very friendly and accommodating. There are people staying there from all over the world, and it's lot of fun getting to know them. The food is good, especially the three course communal dinners. I would definitely stay here again.
