“Not my first choice, but still good”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 14, 2012

Of the hotels/restaurants in Santa Cruz, the Casa Rosa is the one I frequent the least. My main reason for going is that everywhere else seems to only serve group dinners and if you don';t book a reservation in advance you often cannot eat. The Casa Rosa is the exception. You can go in any time and order whatever you want from the menu. Unfortunately I have not found the food to be as good as the Isla Verde or Iguana Perdida. It is still a nice place with great views and friendly staff.

Room Tip: This is the place to go if you are hungry and did not get on the reservation list for the Isla Verde...

I have been again in La Casa Rosa and I enjoyed very much my Semana Santa holidays.
They have improved very much the use of the lovely garden through building the Garden Lounge. This is a nice place for chilling out, listening relaxing music and having great breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Depending on the guests, sometimes the owner's daughter is organising funny latina fiestas.
It is really a great place to rest, have fun, go for dive and know about the Guatemalan and Indigenous culture. The owner Rosa is Guatemalan, this is an added value as she can explain a lot about her country.
Whenever I will be back in Central America I will try to have some relaxing days there - it is so special!!!

Beautiful green garden and a relaxing cafe right on the lakeside which makes you feel you are on a boat or just floating. Wonderful sunset views and the happy hour is accompanied by great music. It is an ideal place to enjoy a fews days of just sitting back and taking it easy.

I was a couple of days in the Hotel La Casa Rosa, St. Cruz, managed by a Guatemalan woman. I enjoyed the peaceful and nice garden atmosphare of this hotel. In December 2011, they opened a very lovely Garden Lounge with a perfect view to the lake. This is a wonderful improvement of the Hotel (i was there before) as it offers a nice place to hang around the day, Furthermore it is used as the restaurant and offers to have breakfast, lunch and dinner there, listening chill-out music and enjoying the nature.

The rooms are are very nice, some of them with a lake-view and private bathroom. It is a perfect alternative to the overcrowded places in Panajachel. It is possible to join the yoga-classes in the morning and start the day with 100% relax.
St. Cruz offers to have nice walks, to dive, to swim and do other water-sports.

I recommend the Hotel La Casa Rosa very much and I am looking forward to go back as soon as possible.

A fellow traveler we met on our way to lake atitlan recommended case rosa to us. We looked it up online and saw there was wifi, yoga, beautiful rooms and gardens, so we called and made a reservation. we arrived the next day and were greeted by dona rosa who showed us our garden bungalow. the garden and location of casa rosa are very beautiful, but a the bungalow was a bit dirty (spiderwebs everywhere and trash that dona rosa removed once we entered). the linens of the bed were very old and had so much pilling that it was a little uncomfortable. it just didn't feel clean. neither did the bathroom.
there also was no wifi. we were the only guests at the time, which felt a little lonely. the breakfast we ate there once was good, but we soon discovered that you could have very lively family style dinners and nice breakfasts at the iguana perdida right next door. at iguana perdida the staff also offered tons of help and gave us tips on what to do, asked us how our day was and what we did or were planning to do the next day. it just made it that much more obvious that the atmosphere at dona rosa was very different. it felt deserted and while dona rosa was always friendly, she never engaged in a conversation. the second day we met her daughter, who was a little harsh (always made comments about us paying so we won't run away without paying....which i find a little weird. as a guest i do not want to be passive aggressively accused of that without any reason). also there was obviously some friction between daughter and mother, overall we just felt a little like unwanted house guests in someones private home. there also wasn't any yoga, but they do have mats and a patio where you can practice by yourself. and as i said, the garden is really beautiful. but unfortunately i would not recommend this hotel.

Great hotel, great owners, great views! La Casa Rosa is a very nice and relaxing hotel. Interestingly it is owned by a Guatemalan woman which makes it even more special!

We had a very nice stay at La Casa Rosa for about 2.5 days. We loved the bungalo we stayed in, and the patio area is great. Breakfast and happy hour are enjoyable. Beautiful location and nearby views offer unforgettable experience. Make sure you visit the small Santa Cruz town up the hill (you can take a 3-wheeler taxi if the walk is too strenuous), for the most authentic local experience.
