“The perfect getaway”

I have travelled in many high end resorts in the caribean and pacific and I want to take my hat off to Mayah and Jeffro. This is a great resort. It is a perfect combination of beautifull scenery, luxery surroundings, great food and friendly staff. This is great value for the quality level of the food, lodgings and location.

The resort itself is beautifully built and decorated with attention to detail. The view is incredible. The area is nice too......the park that they have created has great trails with stunning views. A nice way to pass a morning. There's kayaking and cliff jumping for more fun (keep your legs together for the big jump).

I applaud Mayah and Jeffro (the owners) for keeping their principles and having an eco resort with many eco features and having the credibility to have a food menu that matches the ecological and sustainable principles they hold. I personally saw the gardens where our dinner came from and it was very reasuring that when they say they grow your food....it is not just a token thing....it is core to what they do. I don't see how a customer could go here and not consider eating vegetarian more often with the level of food provided. It is exciting to find a resort that wears it's principles on it's sleeve.

This was the best vacation ever. The hotel and staff and views were so amazing that my friend and I had a hard time deciding if we wanted to go sight seeing or if we just wanted to stay and enjoy the peace, beauty and perfection of laguna lodge. We went during the low season so we had the place to ourselves which made it even more fun. The staff was so polite and hospitable, we felt as if we were waited on hand and foot. The chef was superb, every meal was perfection. They grow all their fruits and vegetables organically in their garden (away from hotel) and every meals produce was picked just before it was served. Every afternoon they served us tea and freshly baked muffins, and every evening they lit a fire in the fire place for us to get cozy by. The area gets cool at night (not cold), which is just perfect. Simply Heaven. By the way, the sight seeing in the area is also great!

We spent 5 glorious days and nights at Laguna Lodge. Our suite was spacious, quiet and decorated with beautiful artifacts and fabrics made by local villagers. My husband and I like to be busy on vacation and get out to experience everything, but it was quite tempting to spend our time simply enjoying the view from our private balcony or relaxing on the hammocks on the top level of the lodge. The food was beyond delicious. Neither of us are vegetarians and neither of us missed meat. Each dinner was 4 courses and very filling. The soups and freshly baked breads are not to be missed (especially the papaya soup!). Breakfast was just as scrumptious. I highly recommend the pancakes and french toast. Before our trip, we read all of the reviews from TripAdvisor. It is true that when we ordered juice there was a bit of a "wait," however, the reason for that it because the juice was freshly made to order! Juan Manuel and his staff are lovely and very courteous. We truly felt at home and can't wait to go back.

if you want to truly relax and enjoy the views of the Lake and the volcano then this is the place to stay. Laguna Lodge is so relaxing to come back to after visiting the other villages along the lake. Our room overlooked the lake w/a beautiful patio. We happened to be the only guests there at the time so it was as if we were staying in a privately staffed home. The vegetarian menu was delicious and if wanted to go elsewhere at night, there is Villa Sumaya which is about a 5 minute walk and takes in guests for their dinner at an add'l charge. The food is not as elegantly served nor as upscale as Laguna but less expensive if one wants a change.

We stayed here at the end of our honeymoon and have extremely mixed feelings. The location is extremely nice however it is 5* accomodation without the 5* service - e.g. waiting ages for coffee and food in the morning, rooms not cleaned, having to pay extra for everything. Due to the size of the place, the character is determined by who the other guests are from day to day. It was fine when it was only adults, but families arrived when we were there, one with little kids, and so the whole character of the place changed - in the restaurant in the evening we felt like we were sitting in the corner of their dining room! This place is definitely not suitable for honeymooners when children are staying as the overall quietness means that voices carry and so there is nowehere to get any romantic peace. On the last night they pushed the boat out to make it romantic for us which was really nice and was appreciated.

The restaurant was the most expensive in all of the places that we stayed in Guatemala and Belize. To be honest, the prices are so extrodinarily high we were not sure how they had worked them out. We didn't stay or dine anywhere else where the prices were nearly so high.

I understand what they are trying to achieve and think it is great that they employ local staff all of whom were really nice and helpful, however they cannot charge 5* prices until they have got the 5* service worked out.

We are pleased you found our facility to be of 5 star quality accommodation and we apologize for not meeting your service expectations. We have rectified this situation. Travel agents sometimes include selected services in their packages, with this some services are additional.
Laguna Lodge uses top quality ingredients, many of which are organic from our own gardens and are priced competitively with other hotels of our high standard in Guatemala.
Due to extenuating circumstances a couple with their young child staying elsewhere was allowed to dine in Zotz restaurant on one occasion.
The Lodge has two beautiful honeymoon suites which are located in a more secluded area than the front garden suites. It is our pleasure to provide room service to any of the suites or other lounges and pavilions on the property.
We look forward to serving you!

This 4+star destination hotel is still off the beaten path a bit. The hotel is immaculate and beautifully furnished throughout; thought and attention to design is amazing with beauty at every turn. The hotel was almost empty, perhaps due to its relatively high price. As a result, we had the full attention of the staff who could not do enough to please us. While travel around the Lake is relatively easy (you just flag a passing boat), you will want to take most of your meals at the hotel. All choices are vegetatarian, with multiple course dinners that will certainly please everyone.

Laguna is almost brand new and you can tell that the owners - Mayah and Jeffro - put their heart and soul into this place. It was well thought out. You can be in the super- large shower and look right out to the lake because the bathroom has a big glass window which allows you to look through the bedroom and out onto the lake. A highlight of our stay was the nature trail up the cliff. WOW! This, too, was given much thought. There, high on the hillside, in a very scenic spot are hammocks so after you have climbed 600 or 700 feet up, you can take time to relax in comfort.

You can only get here by boat so it is romantic but if you're like us, you will love it!
