Our last minute decision to stay at the Laguna Lodge on the shores of the awe-inspiring Atitlan proved to be the highlight of our month long trip to Guatemala. We had not anticipated finding such a marvelous, well-appointed lodge and were overwhelmed in every aspect.
Know and be excited about their strictly vegetarian cuisine. Though none of us are vegetarians we were thrilled to take a break from our carnivorous ways and were delighted by their careful and well planned menus. The owners Mayah and Jeffro pride themselves, and rightly so, on their strict practices in their organic kitchen and garden. The food was out of this world.
Our room was more than lovely and exceedingly comfortable with a veranda boasting the most gorgeous view of Lake Atitlan and her volcanoes one can imagine. The environmentally conscious owners have gone to great lengths to maintain the lodge’s ecological integrity. This is obvious in the construction of the hotel as well as in the particulars i.e. the cleaning products they use, the organic wine selection and chocolates, right down to the vegetable washing process.
The lodge’s careful attention to detail was refreshing and inspiring and I look forward to returning. It is nice to know that there are people out there like Mayah and Jeffro.
