My husband and I stayed at Casa del Mundo for a week and loved every moment of our time there. Our room was beautifully furnished and decorated with Guatemalan crafts and our balcony (room 13) had an unobstructed view of the beautiful lake and volcanoes. We felt transported into another world. The service was excellent (we always felt taken care of), the food and coffee was delicious. Nothing can compare to the beautiufl views from anywhere on the property. We enjoyed hiking, kayaking, swiming in the lake and relaxing in the hammock. The hotel has stone paths and stairs to different levels, all beautiufully landscaped with lush plantings. We are definitely planning on returning to this beautiful hotel.

I took my girlfriend here as a surprise for her birthday.

It was recommended by a friend as the perfect romantic getaway hotel. And he was right!

The hotel is built on a steep cliff above the water. This means a lot of stairs between all the levels, rooms, patio's and restaurants. But this also means that almost every spot in the. Hotel has a clear view of the lake and you feel your room / balcony is floating above the water.

The whole place is beautifully, an I really mean BEAUTIFULLY decorated. We had one of the suites, number 12 located all the way at the top and it had everything. A cute balcony, a good bathroom weigh good shower, windows overlooking the lake, a perfect gigantic hammock (best we had until now) inside the room in front of the windows, as I said beautifully decorated and one of the best features: a fireplace in the room (40Q for the wood, they light it for you). Unfortunately the fireplace, when we lit it, didn't suck out all the smoke, so we ended up opening two windows to prevent the room from being overly smokey, but that was only a minor downside.

The breakfast was really good and the family diner was also nice. The first night we enjoyed meeting all the new people but the second night we actually dreaded the forced socializing we had to do, as the family dinner is the only option for diner. So we went up to our room halfway through. As this place is really secluded (no easy reachable town nearby) this is a downside to the hotel we think.

Most of the staff were really nice and helpful, and were more than adequate English speakers. Unfortunetly one of the two management staff members (there were two guys) was not so pleasent. Every time we had to ask him something he gave us the feeling we were extremely bothering him. This had us hoping we would run into the other guy every time we had a question.

Unfortunately the internet at our room was sketchy at best, so we had to go outside to the restaurant for good reception. For a Hotel in this price range we feel this was unacceptable.

Finally one of the best features about the hotel is the endless maze of small patio's, balconies, stairs and pathways. For every moment you could find an other cozy place to sit and it felt as if you never had them all. And while we weren't able to use the jacuzzi overhanging the lake (it was privately booked) this was a real cool feature of the hotel (albeit a bit expensive at 300Q).

As stated before, the perfect romantic getaway!

Room Tip: If you want to book a suite, number 12 is the most secluded, all the way at the top with a great hammock inside. Suite 11 is a bit closer to the central restaurant and has a hammock outside in front of the room. Suite 13 was the smallest I believe, with no hammock, but closest to the restaurant (less climbing stairs). But I believe a lot of the staff thought this was the most beautiful room.

We stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed every minute. The location couldn't be better, with wonderful view of the lake. The gardens are beautiful and have many charming spots to sit and relax. The rooms are cozy, all with great views of the lake. Take the dinner option because there is really no other place to eat around the hotel. The food is homemade and fresh, tough not gourmet. The breakfast is great. The service and attention of the staff was really good. Overall, made our trip to the lake very special and therefore highly recommended.

The place is great, the hotel is lovely,we had a big room with a view on the lake. The room was spacious, clean and well decorated.
We ate only one supper it was 10$ and average.
The breakfast was delicious (the granola is gorgeous!)
What we regret most is the behevior of the staff. We didn't feel any of the warmth we had in other places. The waiters were lovely even if unexperienced, but the staff manager (they were 2 men) were arrogant and insisted that we leave a tip!
In the end we did leave a tip (10% of the bill but wasn't enough according to the look we recieved!) but only because of the waiters and the maids (they say it is equally shared between the member of staff)
It leaves a bad impression in the end...

This place is a slice of heaven, on the lake of atitlan. The food is to die for, so fresh and clean. The rooms are well equipped, clean and all with beautiful views. The staff are amazing people, they were always there to help whenever we needed it and more. This place is great for a beautiful escape, meet new people, canoe, snorkel, swim around their beautiful balconies! I would definitely recommend this wonderful place to anyone. They strive to do their very best in pleasing all guests. Thanks to bill and his family for having us in their beautiful hotel.
