The Drake Bay Cafe is a new venue in Drake Bay and is, frankly, a cut above other eateries in the area.
We were staying at the Drake Bay Wilderness Resort and hopped over the Aguajitas River for lunch on our last day to try out the place, having heard about it from the Wilderness Resort owners.
The Cafe has been lovingly constructed by its two owners (one local, one originally from the US). In addition to the pleasant open bar/restaurant area (which offers a good view of the bay) the surrounding grounds have been carefully planted with native plants to very pleasant effect.
The owners also have some new vacation cabins on a hill a little way above the cafe (we didn't go up there but they look nice and are in a brilliant location). And there is a Butterfly Farm at the back of the cafe which we really enjoyed and our 11-year-old son adored.
We had a wonderful lunch (best food we'd had all week) and ended up staying for several hours because a heavy rainstorm set in - but it was no hardship. We just drank tea and coffee, ate carrot cake and ice cream and chatted with the charming and dedicated owners.
If beer's your thing, it's worth noting that the Cafe serves wine and some other alcoholic drinks, but not beer.
