Tranquilo was wonderful. Our family of 3 stayed in cabin 8, which is the most private of the rooms - it's by itself, above the dining area but below the pool, which we found a great spot. As others have said, the atmosphere and environment are fantastic. We saw Scarlet Macaws, White-faced Capuchins and lots of cool lizards close by our cabin.
What set Tranquilo apart for us, though, was the service. One reason we chose Tranquilo was because it was significantly less expensive than the other lodges, but we felt like we were living in luxury the whole time! The staff were so friendly and thoughtful, and Mary (the manager) was able to advise us and book activities whenever we wanted. The guides the lodge uses are excellent (don't miss the Rio Claro adventure if you want an amazing day trip). And the food was mind-blowing ... not least because we could eat it all!! If, like us, you are vegetarian and have multiple food intolerances or allergies, you tend to feel a bit concerned about the idea of a place where all the meals are included. Tranquilo's cooks made us high-class meals every day (including snacks at the poolside in the afternoons) that were tailored to each of our dietary requirements. Mary eats vegan and gluten-free, so the staff are used to making special food already.
A couple of packing suggestions: bring reef shoes (not flip flops), as the beach is gritty and many activities involve wet landings. We also found that we didn't need the mosquito-proof gear we'd packed; when we went, in early April, there were no mozzies to be found even while walking in a creek on a night tour (thank you, frogs!).

Our family of 4 (two nine-year olds and two adults) recently stayed at Tranquilo Lodge for 5 days. Tranquilo is absolutely beautiful and relaxing and top notch. Mary and her staff of very professional and the food was healthy and wonderful. We went on nearly every tour offered and had a fantastic time. Just beyond amazing! We toured Corcovado with Erik and also did the Rio Claro adventure with him. Both were amazing adventures and Erik is the best tour guide you could likely find in the whole country. We went on adventures every day and relaxed in the refreshing pool with snacks and drinks every afternoon. Sat in hammocks on our balcony of our cabina and watched scarlet macaws, moneys, butterflies, parrots, humming birds and iguanas. Totally quiet and peaceful. Couldn’t ask for anything better. No hesitation, hands down, one of the best things we could have ever done!! Can’t stop dreaming about it!

Amazing trip! The Tranquilo, Drake Bay! I felt like I was on top of the world! Everyone was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Fishing was excellent, Will and I both caught 6 ft sail fish. Jorge and Alex made fishing extra fun. Food was the best! Beautiful views from our bungalow, georgous jungle animals and beautiful birds. Put this on your bucket list!!

We have been there for 3 nights. There is a magnificent pool on top of a hill with breath taking view of the bay, wonderful sunsets. The manager takes care of all the activities. There are no choices for the food, but breakfast, lunch and dinner are tasty and served very decorated.real pleasure !

The best vacation ever!! There was a special aura and surprise at every turn, every day. The beauty of the property and the ocean was magnificent. The sounds and sights were a sensory overload. It was a trip of a lifetime awakening forgotten emotions and the beauty of life, love and nature. There were so many things worth mentioning we will list them below.

1. First of all the staff was AMAZING. I was ill the first day. The entire staff was so caring and worried they kept checking on me and my spouse throughout the day. Emilio went to town for Powerade. The kitchen help made homemade chicken noodle soup. Lunch was brought to our room. With a combination of medicine, soup and Powerade a quick recovery was made. Every entire staff member went up and above to make sure our adventure was full of pleasure. What an amazing group of people. Try to engage in conversation with them they are a very fun loving, easy going, interesting group of individuals we have ever met. They take pride in their country, resources and work.
Every individual is worth mentioning.

Rafa - gourmet cook
Emilio and Juanca - grounds men, personal drivers, (Emilio has the most beautiful smile)
Pito - security of the grounds with his 2 dogs with an ever watchful eye
Jorge - captain of the El boomerang. He WILL find the fish.
Alexis - fishing mate (sweet funny personality)

Ana- Prep Cook
Maritza, Adelita and Melissa - waitress' with a smile and overall help including happy hour at the bar. They love to practice their English with you and helped us with new Spanish words.
Jenny - Laundry (our clothes smelled wonderful)
Helen - housecleaner (sweet personality)
Ana - massage therapist (better then in the states)

Mary of course the essential necessary coordinator, concierge, tour arranger etc, etc, etc.
An ABSOLUTE ASSET to the lodge.

We would include these people as our new friends and will miss them and will be glad to see them when we return next year.

2. The Rooms: The rooms on top by the pool were beautiful with an ocean view and the pool. A breeze was constant up top with much relief from the hot fun filled days. Mccaws were seen daily along with monkeys and a wide variety of other birdlife and wild life. Our room #8 was halfway up the hill and had a gorgeous view of the ocean as well. Not a breezy for relief but no matter there was an airconditioner if one wanted. The walk to the top did require agility. A ride can be acquired though if needed. So no worries.

3. The excursions: Night Bug Lady (awesome). We liked it so much we wanted to do it again and she was booked so Mary arranged a different one with Eric and his brother Micheal. Micheal was amazing in finding the frogs including the dart frog. Oh by the way he is a bull rider. Fabulous story. Eric and Micheal do many tours in the area and can be arranged with Mary. The are a fabulous duo. They have a vast array of information and experience. The river float tour with Micheal and the Property owner Oldemar was stunning and amazing as well. Oldemar has a vast knowledge of his property and the river. He is a great swimmer and a very funny guy. Fun getting to know him. Roy the guide for the park also an keen sense on how to spot the animals in the rain forest and had a vast knowledge of them as well. Finally Jorge and Alex our personal fishing captain and mate on the Boomerang. They found the fish and were so AWESOME in helping us. We caught an 60 pound Amberjack that fed the entire hotel and the staff. 2 days prior to that we caught many grouper in which Rafa cooked for us. So yummy. They will find the fish!

4. The Food. Homemade Breads, Fresh Squeezed Juices, meals made with fresh ingredients. Every meal was wonderful. Every desert with lunch and dinner was awesome too.

5. "Happy" the Jack Russel Terrier was so cute and friendly. He knows his way around the property. Likes to be scratched and taken for walks especially to the local beach. Just follow him around he knows the way. He is also Tranquilo's little watch dog. There is nothing that goes on there that Happy doesn't know about.

6. Tips: Room #8, 9, 10, 11, 12, Laundry service available. Some Spanish necessary if you like to integrate with the locals and the staff. Urge to do so it was amazing. Sunscreen it is a strong sun and much warmer then San Jose. Visit the San Josecito a beautiful beach. Make all you tour arrangements with Mary her choices in the guides of these tours is impecable. Ask Mary about tipping the staff and tour guides she has a good sense of whats expected or appreciated. These folks really do go out of their way. Happy hour from 4:30 to 6:00 by the pool has amazing snacks and drinks. Go and experience nature it truly is like no where else on earth!!!!

THANK YOU MARY and TRANQUILO for an amazing vacation.

Room Tip: #8, 9, 10, 11 or 12
