We stayed here for 4 days in February 2014 in the Honeymoon Cabin. The Honeymoon Cabin sat on top of the hill overlooking the ocean. the view was just beautiful. We had parrots and scarlet mccaws, toucans flying in and around the trees everywhere. This place was amazing and very peaceful. The staff was wonderful and the owner David was very helpful with arranging everything for us that we needed. We did a snorkeling tour to Cano Island and hiked Corcovado Park. The naturalist guides Greg and Carlos we had for our tours were excellent. My husband went fishing with John from the lodge and he had a great time! We did not want to leave this wonderful place. We will definitely be back!!!!!!!

We stayed for a week in a duplex. Loved everything. First, the ever helpful staff and owners, we took every recommendation they gave, all turned out excellent.aside from that, the remote location, eco attitude, lovely place in nature, good beach, great food, activities around all were just what we wanted and more.

Room Tip: Duplex was perfect for the 5 of us

I recently visited accompanying clients for the travel company I work for. Great location, further south of the more developed Drake Bay area, so I enjoyed the remoteness. The place was at capacity and even so, it was a pretty relaxed environment without too much commotion. I can tell David (manager) ran a tight ship and services were rendered on-time. Their in-house naturalist was superb with us at Corcovado and the food service was higher quality than I expected. I also noticed the restrooms were spotless and my tent had a place to charge my phone and a light bulb. As simple as that might seem, 'someone' took the time to include this fantastically simple amenity and that speaks volumes about a company. The staff was noteably hospitable to me and that doesn't always happen for us Costa Ricans (gracias!). IMPORTANT TIP! Boat landings are amphibious, and bags can get a little wet -- be prepared with at least xlarge garbage bags to waterproof your stuff. HAPPY TRAILS!!

Room Tip: The honeymoon suite is very private and probably enjoys the nicest cool breeze. It is however a tad...

My husband and I just returned from our Honeymoon to Drake's Bay where we spent 4 nights of our trip at Las Caletas. This was, indeed, my favorite spot. We loved out tent cabin, nestled up against the rainforest, where we were awoken by Howler monkeys right outside our tent. Las Caletas is nestled in a very special and sacred-feeling spot, and for whatever reason, we felt most connected to the life-force of that amazing area when we were staying there. The feeling of being perched above the ocean overlooking the sea was magical, and the grounds were beautifully kept. The owners, David and Jolanda, have created a wonderful mix of comfort and down-to-earth simplicity--for us, the perfect mix. The food was impressive and delicious, every meal. One could feel it was made with a lot of attention and love. The staff live on the premises, and this creates a wonderful feeling of connection to them as well as a family feel. The size of the lodge is also ideal. Small enough, so that even when full, everyone can sit at one long table, and dine together. Wonderful connections, conversations and camaraderie were the result. The lodge is also located in an ideal position along Drake's Bay, with easy access to hiking trails along the coast that allow for lovely day trips to waterfalls, towns and empty beaches. The only reservation was that we found David (the owner who was there when we visited) to be quite moody. He was jovial and lovely on the day of our arrival, but throughout our stay, became increasingly irritable and not always pleasant. It's a lot to be running that place single-handedly, and he clearly had his hands full, but he allowed these apparent stressors to effect his demeanor with us and the other guests, and this was unfortunate. Being an intimate place, this was a bit hard to avoid. Jolanda, the other owner, with whom we interacted multiple times over email regarding our reservation and a few other arrangements, went absolutely out of her way to be helpful and kind. All in all, we would certainly go back and recommend Las Caletas highly to any and all!

Room Tip: We preferred the Tent Cabins to what we saw of the Rooms in the Lodge, and even to the Honeymoon Sui...

Stayed in the honeymoon suite which was a simple bungalow, bedroom upstairs, bathroom downstairs with a nice hammock area. We were woken up (in a good way!) by monkeys in our trees, howling monkeys yelling, scarlet macaws squawking, and tons of birds chirping. A true jungle experience. David is very helpful and got us a last minute trip to Corcovado which was great and worth the $95pp.

Food was just ok. Pasta, simple burritos, salad served family style. But, hey, you're literally off the grid in the jungle. The internet was broken the entire time we were there too - that's life! Def. not a place where people are waiting on you but it's simple and elegant in a rustic sort of way.

All in all, 2 nights wasn't enough - would have preferred 3 or 4 (def. not more) to do more walking along the beach path and exploring on my own. The staff was nice and very laid back. We had a great time. We met some great friends and it really lends itself to making friends with other guests. We enjoyed that part too.

The honeymoon suite is not luxe (my wife had a scorpion in her towel) and it was a perfect mix between upscale lodging and Thailand style bungalow traveling. Perfect for those wishing to make Costa Rica their own experience and we would return!

Room Tip: honeymoon suite is at the top of the grounds and is the best. The tents looked HOT.

I went in Las Caletas in July 2013 and I was sure I will come back !
One week in this peaceful and wonderful place; nice renovated " Rana " room, comfortable armchairs, super staff and fabulous well- prepared food.
Eating meals with people coming all over the world is a nice experience.
Surroundings offer wide possibilities to do great activities and to discover the Osa Peninsula.
And last but not least: congratulations and thanks to Jolanda and David who are always doing the best for the visitors of their paradise....
No doubt....I am planing my next stay.

We took the road to Drake Bay as there was some worry about the boat ride and it was so worth the drive! The view and adventure was brilliant! There were a few rivers to cross but there are locals that will advise you as to the best way through. None of them was dangerous! The people along the way were so friendly and you get the opportunity to support these local businesses if you take the road in. Once at Drake Bay, we were picked up and escorted a short boat ride to the lodge. John met us and was a wonderful representative of what was in store for us. We had a large tent while our travel companions had a cottage. Our place was comfortable with a great view. You should note that this is a rain forest and even if it is not rainy season, it is still quite humid. So bedding tends to feel a bit damp, but that is worth all the beauty and experiences you will have. I cannot eat gluten and this was not a problem for our host. The food is great and John ensures that everyone is well taken care of!! He is an outstanding employee Las Caletas! We made sure to hike the trails later in the afternoon or early in the morning. Sunset is brilliant and I highly recommend that you hike to the beach where you can see one. There are so many act ivies available and we took in the snorkeling at canos island. It was fantastic! Worth every cent! We saw so many wonderful fish and sea turtles and spotted dolphins. The day includes a great lunch on a beautiful beach complete with a troupe of scarlettt macaws! Amazing!! Gregory lead the snorklling adventure and as a biologist, his knowledge is profound! He also heads up a night walk but we were too tired from the snorkeling to take advantage of that. If you are considering going to the Osa, I recommend staying at Las Caletas Lodge!

Room Tip: The tents are better ventilated that the rooms and come with a large floor fan. Try to get something...
