Stayed in Las Caletas Lodge in Costa Rica in July 2012 and we found it a great spot. You'll have scarlet macaws, toucans and monkeys (not to mention the odd boa constrictor) right in your 'garden' and will fall asleep to the jungle night chorus and the crashing of the waves on the beach and rocks. Close to Corcovado N.P. for rain forest hikes and more wildlife (we saw tapirs, coatis, many birds and peccaries) and Cano Island (while snorkling and watching sharks and turtles we heard a whale sing nearby). The staff is incredibly friendly, Jose is an expert guide (but you owe me that pygmy kingfisher :) , and there is a nice atmosphere at the dinner table. Highly recommended!

We had planned to stay for three nights at lodge in December 2011 and enjoyed it so much that we finally extended our stay. The lodge is located on a very beautiful hill directly above the small landing beach and offers excellent views over the Bahia Drake.
We stayed three nights in the Tureca and one night in Honeymoon Suite that both were nice and clean. Food was good and service excellent. The guide of the lodge, Jose, has a degree in eco-tourism and was an excellent guide during our trip to the Corcovado.
The only drawback of our trip was the boat transfer from Sierpe to the lodge: the young driver obviously wanted to impress his girl-friend who joined the ride and almost scared us to death. Very fortunately, the driver of the Las Caletas Lodge had a different style of riding the boat and thus all other rides we had were very enjoyable.
Las Caletas Lodge definitely is the place we would visit again if we will come to Costa Rica for a second time.

From the moment we arrived, everything was special! Las Caletas was everything imagined and times the intensity by 10! The colors, the sounds, the smells even the rain and the lightening! Everything was just a feast for the senses and I would recommend it to anyone in a heartbeat! we did the horseback riding, Cano Island and Corcovado tour. All three were wonderful, my only "next times" would be that some more clarity around meal times, sun up and sun down (We had just arrived from the 49th parallel and sun down looked really different in that part of the world! We knew to the times were different but no one understood what we were asking about!) Food was amazing, all we needed and better than home! Thank you again!

The last stop on our Costa Rica adventure was the perfect ending to a wonderful holiday. Absolutely beautiful setting, super knowledgeable guides, and a great host. The trip in from Sierpe was a great way to arrive, helpful to be prepared for the fact that your landing is straight off the boat and onto the beach - no jetty so get ready to get your feet wet. That's part and parcel of the adventure, and good practice for your trip to Corcovado (which you MUST do). Excellent value.

A tropical paradise for those who enjoy the simplest pleasures in life. Comfortable, clean accomodations, friendly knowledgable host & guide and amazingly good food. We loved hanging out on the point with it's great view of Drake Bay and cooling breeze after our days exploring the coastal jungle. Awake to the screams of Howler monkeys and the chatter of parakeets. Sunrise to sundown, you are surrounded by wildlife of all shapes, sizes and colors. The grounds are a colorful blend of flowering trees and shrubs. We left our electronics back in the States but other guests chose to stay connected. Fondest memories of drinking a cold beer while the sunset blazes, coloring the waters of the Bay as we watch the dolphins chase the bait fish. AAAHHH!

The cabin was tiny but clean and comfortable with a good bathroom and lots of privacy and a nice garden beside it - had the feel of a tree-house. The beach in front is great for swimming and snorkelling and the coastal trail takes you to secluded and stunning beaches. Scarlet macaws fly over you as you hike, swim or laze and the wildlife in the Corcovado is amazing. David runs this place so well and organizes great trips - highly recommend the whale and dolphin watching, totally not commercial or cheesey - just a small boat, great people (divinedolphins.com) and the vast Pacific. Food here is good and plentiful, with the afternoon cookie jar full of excellent treats. Dinner has no choices but vegetarian always available with fish as well or meat, one or the other each night. Lunches were excellent and the packed lunch for trips very satisfying. Eating is done in a gorgeous open room with ocean views and cool breezes, communal style with one main long table - the woodwork and wood furnishings are incredible. Very popular with Europeans, so always meeting new people and hearing different languages spoken. My husband found this place too remote-feeling - but that was the part I loved, as well as the brilliant scenery and so much to do. So if you need the feel of lots going on nearby, being close to shops and stuff and don't like to be in a more remote spot, try La Paloma - but I would recommend Las Caletas as a wonderful experience, the natural beauty can't be beat and David is a delight. Don't stroke the cat - admire from a distance!

Room Tip: I liked the "garden cabin" for privacy, but there are plenty of options here with tent cab...

My wife and I have traveled to Costa Rica but have never been to the Osa Peninsula. We only had a week so we spent half of it in Dominical and the other half here in the Osa. We picked this place because of the great reviews on TripAdvisor.

It was a fantastic choice for us. We stayed for two nights in the Tureca Cabin which is private and a little separated from the other rooms. It was very easy to set up this reservation with Jolanda via email and Skype. She also worked out all of our excursions and transportation to and from Las Caletas. David was always around with a smile on his face making sure everything was running smoothly. We did a tour to Corcovado National Park which was a 40 minute boat ride south of the lodge. The guide, Jose, was very knowledgeable and passionate about his job. The highlight of the tour was seeing tapirs and an anteater.

Las Caletas was very clean and the food was good. We enjoyed how you had to take a boat to the lodge and it required you to get out in knee deep water on the beach. Everyone who works there was very helpful.

Room Tip: Tureca is a little separated from the other rooms. The honeymoon suite looked pretty cool.
