Owner description: I offer high quality tours of discovery, expertly designed to fulfill the adventurous spirit in you. Reef and rainforest explorations are edifying and exhilarating - and often hands-on! Corcovado National Park is a breathtaking site no matter how many times you tour its vast unspoiled beauty. I am located in Drake Bay, near to Corcovado, right in the heart of one of Costa Rica's most untouched ecological wonders. The Osa Peninsula still holds many surprises for those seeking to see nature, all Corcovado area can only be described as "the most biologically intense place on Earth" (National Geographic).

“The Platform in the Canopy was Amazing!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 1, 2013

Carlos Pacheco took us on a day tour to Corcovado National Park. We searched the Drake Bay area for the best way to experience the most bio-intense place on the planet and we discovered this diamond in the rough tour guide. Carlos does 2 of the ranger stations in the same day.. The secondary jungles of the Sirena Ranger station where the animals were the most present and then the ancient primary jungles of the San Pedrillo Ranger Station. We arrived in Sirena at least an hour before the other local hotels arrived and this allowed for us to be among the first visitors of the day.. We saw countless animals and Carlos was very well educated on all of the species. After 10AM the sun grew very hot as the secondary jungles provide little protection from the sun. We ate a quick brunch and took the boat ride to the shady primary jungles. Along the way we saw humpback whales and 2 species of dolphins. The San Pedrillo Ranger Station was our favorite of the 2 stations and it seemed as if there were too many fascinating things to discuss.
After such an outstanding tour to Corcovado we took the advise of Carlos Pacheco and stayed a night on his property that is positioned approximately 1km from Corcovado. He has a new platform tower that stands 50 feet above the ground. Being this high allowed us to feel as though we actually were part of the canopy.. The birds and monkeys traveled passed us throughout the evening into the night and then the traffic and sounds of nature only increased when the morning came.. Carlos took us through the primary jungles on his property until we reached a river that lead us to the beach. The river had numerous beautiful waterfalls. We floated down the river until we reached the river mouth at the beach.. From there we walked along a beach trail that took us along the beach line back to Drake Bay. I counted 21 sandy beaches along the way. We still haven't had the time to go through all the pictures that we took..
Carlos was a very knowledgeable guide and made our journeys so much fun with his playful personality. He definitely loves what he does!

“Don't miss Carlos' platform in the canopy.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 24, 2013

After taking a few tours with Carlos Pacheco around the Drake Bay area, including his Corcovado hiking tour and floating down the stunning Rio Claro, we became devoted followers and fast friends with him. When he told us about his steel platform, 50 feet up in the rainforest canopy, we knew we had to stay there. The experience turned out to be the highlight of our trip to Costa Rica. It began by walking up to the platform, in a remote and beautiful part of the forest above Drake Bay. As we got to the platform we could hear howler monkeys, toucans, and the deafening cicadas all around us. We felt totally immersed, and although we had worried about how we would pass the evening after the sun went down when we were 50 feet up in the air, we were surprised to find ourselves totally content to just sit quietly and look and listen. For probably two hours! The stars and the fireflies were amazing. We checked out a pair of night vision goggles after it got dark and the forest grew quiet. Although it is not luxurious, i had the best night's sleep up in the platform of our entire trip. In the morning we woke up to the sunrise and the birds calling all around us. We were greeted with hot coffee and breakfast before we headed back to town.
I might not recommend the platform for every traveler. It is rustic and low on amenities. I'm not sure if it would be worth it with young children. But for outdoor enthusiasts like my wife and I who really want to experience being in the rainforest, it is an experience you shouldn't miss.

“Great Night Swimming Tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 7, 2013

Pacheco is a great native guide, he knows what he is doing and has full positive attitude. You have to look for him at Drake Bay town. Our night swimming tour was amazing (have you ever seen your arms shining inside the ocean?), simple and good rates. He offered a lot more tours; I would definitely look for him on my next visit to Drake Bay. Fernando Trejos.

“Carlos Pacheco is THE man to find when you're in Drake Bay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2012

What a gem this guy is! Seek him out when you arrive and he'll be the best guide, ally and source of information your could ask for in this glorious corner of the globe. We were in Drake Bay late June 2012 and Pacheco (aka, the barefoot guide - hasn't worn shoes in 18 years) met us on his atv on arrival at our rental house. In the following days he checked in on us regularly to help (lots of trouble with the rental), brought us towels and water (which was out in the entire town), gave us a wonderful tour on the peninsula, and was a great pal to our family under some tough conditions. His remarkable energy, love for the Osa Peninsula and Drake, and his care and friendliness with no financial interest or gain for himself were just remarkable. Ticos are indeed some of the kindest and warmest people on the planet and Pacheco is an amazing example. He's an accomplished naturalist and ideal expert for planning and maximizing on your time in Corcovado. Thanks Pacheco and hope to meet you again soon!
