The tours were wonderful, including snorkeling, hiking through the rain forest (Corcovado) to a waterfall and seeing monkeys, crocodiles, sloths; then of course there was the zip line tour. All of those are planned seamlessly. The best part is the remoteness and feeling of adventure getting to and being in the area. We flew in on a small plane, were met by a van and driven on a dirt road to the river. They loaded our bags onto a small boat. We went ten miles or so down the river to the ocean and then drove directly to Aguila in Drake bay. The rooms are large, airy and open, no glass anywhere but screens on the windows in the room. It was the most spectacular feeling when it rained at night and we could hear it all around but stayed perfectly dry. When it didn't rain you could hear (and see) the ocean from the rooms. We also had a hammock from on our deck from which we could span the bay and the forest around us. The food was excellent. We had fresh fish every night some of which my boyfriend caught himself. The staff was always very friendly but not overbearing. Claudio made the best gin and tonics! Homemade chocolate chip cookies were always available in the dining area, not to mention the homemade breads and desserts. What more could anyone want.

Room Tip: All of the rooms were excellent. There are only 14 of them. They all have a view of the ocean amid...

In Costa Rica if wildlife excursions are your thing then this is where you want to be! Three full days minimum!!! Drake Bay is exceptionally beautiful and rich with wildlife!! You wake to the sounds of Howler monkeys in the rainforest and macaws flying overhead. Do not miss the mangrove tour!! If you enjoy deep sea fishing charter a boat for the day as the area waters are the best in the world for catch and release sail-fishing. If you like creepy crawlies take the guided nighttime bug tour!! Ask the manager about other tour options best suited to you including guided rainforest hikes. If you are an experienced scuba diver or snorkeler you may be disappointed in the visibility and lack of colorful corals, although there pelagic species in the area.
The rooms are comfortable in their simplicity, open and airy..no phones, no TV, no AC trust me you won't miss them! Dining is communal which may seem odd until you start discussing your days adventures with you new friends. The staff are friendly, tour guides professional and knowledgable and the service is fantastic!!! The food is great and freshly prepared to order. If you go fishing you, and the other guests, will likely be eating something you caught!
This is NOT the Ritz so if you want a sterilized vacation experience don't stay here! You need to be moderately fit as you will be active and it does get hot during the day!! Be aware of your surroundings even on the hotel grounds it is not unusual to come face to face with monkeys or an occasional boa.

We just returned from a 4 day stay at Aguila de Osa. Bradd made us feel like welcome friends. The architecture and ambience of this remote and gorgeous small resort are remarkable. All of the logistics seem to go like clockwork everyday. Bradd has made his hotel an employer of the local population and he has developed a well oiled machine. Day trips are included and are well run by competent and knowledgeable guides. We did the scuba diving at Cano Island and the guided nature hike in Corcovado park plus we used sit on top kayaks available at the lodge to explore the river and shoreline near the resort. When we left we forgot out passports and did not realize it until we were about 30 minutes by boat from th e lodge. The crew made no fuss and turned us around while calling someone at the hotel to get th e passports and start out to meet us. What incredible service! Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Lower numbers are closer to the lodge and it is a steep climb up to the rooms

This small ecolodge is the ultimate experience in accommodations, service, and adventures. Service is very personal. Rooms are huge. The location is a dream. The hotel offers all kinds of tours (rain forest, diving, fishing, mangroves, zip lining, you name it). One of the best features is that, while the grounds are large, the hotel is relatively small (about 30 guests), and you meet and make friends almost immediately with half of them. Meals eaten at eight-person tables and happy hour with free appetizers means that you easily get to people and exchange addresses after just a few days at this lodge. Most telling: we were greeted with "welcome" by other guests who, after arriving just a day earlier, already felt at home. (Yes, the experience is expensive, but it's also unforgettable, and you most likely want to come back.)

Room Tip: Rooms are up a small but steep walk. Try to get a room nearer the main complex if walking uphill is...

Of our thirteen day vacation in Costa Rica, our five days in the Osa was hands down the highlight of our trip. We have been to a lot of wonderful places, but the Osa has moved to the top of my list.

We were there at the beginning of December and since it was the end of the rainy season, not only did we get a great rate, but there were hardly any people. The hotel was booked every night, but the area itself had very few tourists while we there.

We did the Cano Island Dive and the Corcovado Tour starting at the Sirena Ranger Station. The tour guides, Sandra (for the dive) and Tony (for the park) were both great, but I wasn't wowed by the tours themselves. From what I had read about the diving in that area, I hadn't expected much but I was a bit disappointed by the park itself. I had expected to see a lot more wildlife and even prettier flora but I guess you really need to hike well into the forest to experience that. I also was hoping that the hike itself would be a bit challenging, but it's more like a stroll. Next time I go back, we'll probably do the mongrove tour instead which everyone raved about.

The breakfast and dinners at the hotel were amazing. My boyfriend and I are both foodies, so we were not disappointed. The breakfast menu was quite extensive from whole wheat banana pancakes to a typical Costa Rican breakfast. For dinner there were usually two entrees to choose from, usually fish and some type of meat. We had the fish every night because it was so fresh and prepared compared completely different each time. Before dinner, there is a cocktail hour with free appetizers which were really good as well. Before we went, I wasn't sure how I was going to like the communal meals, but that ended up being one of the highlights of our stay. We met a lot of wonderful people from all over North America and Europe and had a lot of fun chatting with everyone during the cocktail hour and meals.

One afternoon, the owner Bradd took us, along with some other guests on the boat over to another part of the island for a Turtle Festival sponsored by the Corcovado Foundation. I found out later that he is on the board of this wonderful organization. http://www.corcovadofoundation.org/sea-tutle-conservation.html. All the locals were there. There was music and entertainment for the children and at the end they released all the turtles into the ocean. It was quite moving and we were so fortunate to be able to be part of that.

On the last day my boyfriend and I walked along the beach and jungle for miles and saw amazing wildlife and hardly any humans. There were several beautiful beaches with nobody on them - it was absolutely amazing. When we got back we took the kayaks down the river then back along the bay. That was our best day and everything was free!

Because there are so many great places in the world to visit, we try not to do repeats, but the Osa is one place that I will definitely return to.

Beautiful, well appointed Inn located in the amazing Drake Bay. The staff was very thoughtful, extremely helpful and always courteous. The food was plentiful and amazingly delicious! The Mangrove tour with Carlos and Corcovado National Park hike with Tony are a must!! Their knowledge and expertise of the plants, animals and environment are outstanding and really add to the experience. There are other great excursions available we did not have time for. This is an exceptional lodge in a tropical paradise where Brad (owner) and staff pay attention to every detail. We can't wait to return.

Room Tip: The water is treated & drinkable. Each room has its own bathroom and hot shower.
