“Amazing place!”
Reviewed December 24, 2013

After 3 weeks travelling through Costa Rica we can ensure you Finca Maresía is among the Top 3 locations in this price range we have stayed in. The property, facilities and also the well prepared dinner (everyday different from the day before) is beyond what you could expect by its price. Definitely a "must see" in Costa Rica if you are planning to go to Península de Osa.

The only regret is the fact of having to cross many rivers (2 of them quite wide) before reaching Drake Bay. We would recommend taking the boat from Sierpe to avoid having problems with the rental car (any incidence while crossing rivers is out of the scope of the insurance)

My boyfriend and I were very well taken care of during our stay at Finca Maresia. The property was incredibly beautiful, just the oasis we needed after our tiring trek through Corcovado National Park. Juan, our host, was always gracious and helpful and the dinners he made were out of this world! My only regret is that we could not stay here longer. If I ever come back to Costa Rica, this place will be top of my list!

You will be delighted and Finca Maresia will become a place in that trip you took to Costa Rica years ago that you will always remember, recommend to all your friends and dream of going back to one day. Juan (one of the owners) is an incredible host, cook and guide and will mislead you immediately into thinking that Finca Maresia is your home. He will explain first everything there is to know in order to make your stay perfect. He will organize your expeditions to Corcovado, your diving trip to see white tip sharks, turtles and rays. He will advise you on what beach to go to (which will turn out to be one of the best you´ve even been to), he will call one of his friends to take you out at night to spy on frogs, spiders and snakes with a flashlight and a pair of waterboots. This place needs no recommendation but I promised myself (and Juan) before I left I´d write one. Finca Maresia and its wonderful owner are an example of what tourism should be like anywhere. If you go, please, bring a little treat for Simba and Kila, Juan´s two adorable dogs and do as much as you can while you´re there. Oh, and do ask for the superior room if your budget is not too tight (and even if it is, cut it elsewehere), it will turn out to be your best investment in Costa Rica (and possibly the bext shower of your life).

Room Tip: Do try to book the superior room.

The most amazing hotel, perfectly secluded compared to the majority of Drake Bay hotels, fantastic rooms, each with a view and two comfortable hammocs. Juan, who runs the place, is like a father figure who runs the place like clock-work and takes great pleasure in looking after his guests and making sure they have everything they need.

A very sociable atmosphere (yet still plenty of privacy if wanted), with delicious, cheap, 4-course meals served at a large dining table every night.

Easy access to all the local activities, which Juan will be happy to arrange for you. A truly marvellous place all-round, a real feeling of being surrounded by nature and being cut-off from reality in the middle of the rain forest!

Could not be more highly recommended!

This place is out of this world! the most enjoyable place I have ever stayed. Juan makes the place a home. We awoke every morning to the sounds of the rainforests and from our private balcony saw numerous birds, butterflies, monkeys, scarlet Macaws. The service is truly 5 star, we were looked after like we were family. The food was delicious, always healthy, good portion sizes and varied, with an opportunity to eat local foods. We ate here every night, there seemed little point in ever leaving! Lots and lots of activities available and walks from Drake Bay, however I would recommend setting aside a few days to spend at Finca Maresia, just to relaz, unwind and soak up the place by relaxing on you balcony in a hammock with a beer!

Room Tip: Room 2 was fantastic I would definitely recommend it, room 5 is a little more basic, room 1 is a lit...

This place is great, the super friendly and useful Juan - who made everything simple, fantastic tasty and healthy food, amazing wildlife, comfy bed. The activities available were brilliant. The trip to Cano Island and Sirena rangers station perfect for seeing wildlife. The Zip line canopy tour was fun.We stayed 7 nights, that was just the right amount of time.

Room Tip: We had the two double bed room, no. 5. Detached, with balcony near trees that birds visited everyday...

This is the second time I've been to Drake Bay and of course we stayed at Finca Maresia again. This place is just too good to miss. The bungalows have a great architecture. They feel somewhat luxurious but still very much in touch with nature. The complex is a few minutes outside of Drake Bay. It's pretty big with lots of open area as well as some trees for the birds (tons of tucans when we were there) and even has some rain forest where you can do a night hike (lots of frogs, spiders, snakes etc).

Juan, the owner, is always making sure everybody feels right at home. He also organizes the tours for everyone and he's even the kitchen chef when it's dinner time. Before we arrived he's been incredibly helpful setting up our tours and rooms and giving us driving directions via email. He even made sure the roads to Drake Bay were good for driving the morning before we arrived. The rest of the staff is great as well, rather shy but very good and helpful.

If you wanna stay at the Finca, make sure to reserve your rooms early, as all the bungalows can be booked out even in the low season. Same thing happened to us, but Juan gave us his room (yes, the one he is living in) for the one night of our stay, where there was no free bungalow. That is just so much more than most other hotel owners would do. Thanks so much and we'll be definitely be coming back on our next vacation in Costa Rica.

Room Tip: Any of the deluxe bungalows. Then you've got a bungalow all for yourself with lots of privacy.
