“The ultimate Dominical Surf house”
Reviewed May 4, 2014 via mobile

This place is just killer. The owners are authentic and so committed to their mission. They have provided an awesome environment for connecting with the waves, other travelers, and the beauty of this beautiful beach town. Celine and Sri make the atmosphere and are very fair, considerate, and hospitable. It's a lovely place to land and call home while you spend your stay in dominical. I got to surf every day, chill out in the hammock and sun room, take afternoon naps, spend quiet nights reading and writing in the open air very spacious ocean front lounge room. This place is clean, welcoming, and offers security. I appreciated the calm space and full kitchen. They also have a great range of boards to rent and it definitely lives up to its name of cool vibes. I'll definitely be back there soon! X

I was originally planning to stay in Dominical for a couple of nights. However, the lovely town and friendly, relaxed hostel consequently doubled my length of stay in Dominical.

Cool vibes hostel is located on the main road on Dominical, about 4 minutes walk from the goods and services in Dominical. This was a very convenient place to be located - you have a sense of seclusion while staying at the hostel, while being just a short walk away from the centre of Dominical. As well as this, Cool Vibes is just 30 seconds from the gorgeous Pacific coastline. Since you're a little while from the centre of Dominical, it isn't hard to find a secluded spot away from other visitors.

The hostel consists of four rooms with 6 beds in each room (I presume, anyhow, since the only room I entered was my own), complete with secure lockers and padlocks.
These rooms surround a brilliant common room area, complete with chairs, tables, a hammock and power sockets. This common room has a beautiful, open space to look out onto the sea. A great place to chill out and chat to other travellers. My only issue with this area was that it got very dim once the sun went down. This made it difficult to play cards/read & write. It is very close to the rooms, however 'quiet time' begins at 10pm, so sleeping shouldn't be an issue - it wasn't for me.

When you leave the common room you come to the reception area, kitchen and living area. The reception area has some leaflets/maps which are helpful. Though not as many as some other hostels I've visited.
The living area consists of a TV (I think it has Sky), a DVD player equipped with many DVDs, and a PlayStation 2 with a few games. I didn't spend much time here, but it's a great thing to have, no doubt.

The kitchen area is very well equipped. Cooking decent meals was a breeze, and necessities such as oil were provided. Keeping your food safe from other residents was easy, since means of food tagging were provided. My only issue with the kitchen was lighting the gas stove. All I had to light it was a dud lighter. Consequently the room stank of gas by the time I finally got the stove lit.

Once you pass this area you come to the toilets/showers. Two of each, very clean and functional. No complaints here. Though a fussy resident may dislike the distance from the rooms to the showers.

Finally we come to the smoking room/secondary common room, another great place to chill out after a day on the water. Here we have chairs, a couple of hammocks, sofa and a little table. Though I'm not a tobacco smoker I found myself spending a fair amount of time here in the evenings since it's much better lit than the other common room.

The owners of the hostel were very friendly and accommodating. They were happy to answer any queries I had throughout my stay, and booking extra nights was a breeze. They also provide surfboard hire. They have a wide range of boards. Different shapes and sizes to accommodate for beginners and pros alike. A full days hire is a very reasonable $10 (5000 colones)

To conclude, I had a brilliant time here. Great vibe, great people, great facilities. My biggest issue was the lighting.. Yeah, that's it..

For $10 a night, I don't think you can get much better value than this.

We were eagerly welcomed into Cool Vibes Beach Front Hostel by the owners Sri and Celine. They were super friendly and made sure we were comfortable. The hostel itself, is very "cool" and has a great open room/deck that looks out the the Pacific Ocean, as well as having loads of big iguanas crawling around. There are lots of surfers in town, and many of them stay at this hostel. We originally planned to stay longer, but something happened with our dates, and Sri was more than accommodating and didn't mind being flexible and giving us a refund, which I really appreciated.

The owners are attentive to every detail. Upon arrival they show you where they live in the hostel and let you know if you need anything during your stay to just knock on their door. This amazing place is super clean and has awesome zones that create an awesome energy flow. There is the quiet area with hammocks, couches, and chairs where wifi is available. A really nice community kitchen, two toilets and 2 showers, a tv area, and a yoga zen den. Cool vibes is a little off the beaten path, a few minutes walk into town, which is nice. You can walk into town for a good time and walk out to the peace and quiet when you are ready for tranquilo. Beautiful beach a few dozen steps away. If your in Dominical, this is the place to rest your head.

Cool Vibes was a fantastic experience for us. It's a beautiful set up in a perfect location in Dominical. It's not too close to the bars and restaurants, but not too far either. The beach is just outside the doorstep, and has an amazing viewing deck (huge) where you can sit, read a book and watch the sunset over the ocean. It's completely open plan meaning that there is free flowing air inside the Hostel at all times. The friendliness of the 2 people running the place at the time (Rick & ..) along with the friendliness of all the backpackers made this place perfect. The beds are unfortunately extremely uncomfortable and need replacing, but it is extremely cheap to sleep here. The surf board rentals were only $10, but unfortunately from a small selection. They have a communal kitchen which is extremely small, but at least they have one. ;) We had a really good time staying at this hostel, and would recommend it.

Wonderful and genuine experiences at Cool Vibes! Def a backpacker place, but the way the hostel is set up one can meet many cool friends from around the world. Perfect location in Dominical, friendly owners, and very clean considering it is open air style. I loved the bohemian feel and style to the place, too! It is true the beds are a bit stiff, but honestly the place has so much charm it did not really matter...well that and the rum...and being in the sun all day...but to each your own.
