My husband was too leery about having our girls (6,8, and 9) go horseback riding and they LOVE hiking...so off we went!
We knew going into it that it was a 4.7 KM hike each way (just about 3 miles) and that going there was all uphill. That was a little daunting. The lady at the roadside building told us it was muddy, and would take about 1.5 hours each way. Armed with plenty of water and snacks we started walking.
Holy crap was it muddy! There were spots where our feet were covered in mud and we couldn't figure out which way to go! BUT this was not very often, and was much better on the way back down.
It was the toughest hike I've done. That being said, it was totally worth it! It took us just over 2 hours to get up, but only 50 minutes to get back down.
The waterfalls were the prettiest we have ever seen, and living in Michigan we often see waterfalls. Just amazing!
In the end of July we didn't have any need for bug spray.
I would have preferred to horseback ride, but can understand my husband's hesitation. Our girls had no problem with the hike. Give it a try!
