The reviewer of November 24 has already said what I was going to say. Ivette and Tom are the new owners of Villas Alturas. They are professionals in making people happy and who have adopted the best of Costa Rican hospitality. They are going over the property and making sure that nothing is short of perfect. The entire property is being brought up to the highest standards. The pool is new. The rooms are newly painted. The kitchens would allow you to prepare your own meals if you wanted to, though all you have to do is let them know what you want to eat, and they will make sure that they have the ingredients to prepare for you what you would like to eat. The views from the rooms and the pool terrace are extraordinary. We saw toucans, summer tanangers and capuchin monkeys. You must have a 4x4 to travel the road . You are a short drive to many beautiful beaches. But, what makes this place so special are the warmth and sincerity of Ivette and Tom, as well as Claudia and Raoul, who work there. We hope to be back next year. The place felt like home and they, family.

We stayed 4 nights at Villas Alturas. The beautiful villas are located on a slope, each villa allows an incredible view over the ocean which we will not forget. The property where the villas are located is wide and there is a big and wild forest beside the very well maintained garden of the villas. Birds can be observed, there are several trees where toucans come every day, humming birds, kingfishers and many more. Capucine monkeys are living just "next door", coati-mundi are strolling around. We even had the chance to see a whale jumping out of the water several times.
The villas are undergoing very aesthetic renovations and according to Tom and Ivette, the kind owners, even the furniture will be replaced in some of the villas to make them even more comfortable. The whole place invites to just relax and feel good. It's a peaceful and quiet environment. From time to time we had to jump in the pool to refresh and had a lot of talks with the other guests, all very friendly.
The meals are served on a terrasse located beside the pool, the meals are marvelous, the chef prepares really tasty dishes.

It was great to have you both stay with us at Villas Alturas. We are so happy that you also had the opportunity to meet new friend and even other travelers from Germany. We enjoyed your conversations and the wonderful feedback you gave us. We hope your time in Costa Rica was wonderful at all the different location you had the opportunity to explore. We hope that you and your friends in Germany again will chose Villas Alturas as your home away from home.

We stayed the night he new owners took over and were the only guests that night. The cabanas are comfortable, room, CLEAN, newly furnished and private. The kitchen was not running yet, but there are lots of restaurants nearby. FOUR WHEEL DRIVE is absolutely necessary for the long steep drive, but the view and unobstructed sea breezes are ample reward. Our only complaint was that during the night, our air conditioner (appeared new) had a schizophrenic break and began beeping and turning itself off and on, after about 15 minutes of frustation, it shut up and shut off, and we opened the windows and went back to sleep. Actually, with the ceiling fans and big screened windows, air conditioning isn't really necessary, the sea breeze cools off nicely at night.

We just returned from our stay at Villas Alturas, and wish we were still there! The villas are comfortable and private, and we had an outstanding view. The front porch was a great place to read and sip a glass of wine. The owners are friendly and work hard to make your stay comfortable. The location is conveniently located to waterfalls and beaches. But we especially felt welcomed and taken care of here. They will help you arrange transportation, activities etc...very helpful with having all the logistics turn out right in Costa Rica. The food was fantastic, still thinking about the desserts!
In reading other reviews, one person mentioned the driveway as problematic. We didn't find it so, the villas are on a hill, so are most places you will be visiting in this part of Costa Rica. For touring this area, and getting to parks, restaurants, waterfalls etc, an all wheel drive vehicle is standard. You will love it here, we hope to be back!

Each year we take an annual “Chix Trip” to a warm exotic location and this year we chose Costa Rica. After visiting Manuel Antonio we decided to rent a car and travel an hour south to the beaches of Dominical and Uvita. We chose Villas Alturas based on reviews we saw on Trip Advisor for our stay. We were so thrilled with our choice! Recently there has been a change in ownership and we now feel like we are a part of the family at this small intimate place. The panoramic views of the jungle and beaches of Dominical as viewed from the newly refurbished pool are spectacular. Our Villa #4 was lovely and a comfortable home base to launch our beach and waterfall excursions. Our favorite part was the covered veranda with four rocking chairs and a hammock. Great for reading a book, viewing the sunsets and the occasional rain squall. We rented a four wheel drive car to climb the steep driveway up to the villas. New signage, grading and gravel have addressed some of the issues we read about. We easily found where we were going and had no problem getting up the hill and never needed to use 4WD. Just remember you are in rural Costa Rica and it is all part of the adventure. From the moment we arrived to the sad day of our departure, new owners Tom and Ivette and their sweet dog “Homey” made us feel welcome. The service was impeccable; they answered all of our questions, took care of all of needs for rental cars and transfers and truly wanted us to have a great experience. The exceptional service they provided was invaluable, especially if you don’t speak the language. We swam in postcard worthy pools at the base of some waterfalls and visited six distinct beaches in Dominical, Dominicalito and Uvita that they recommended. The highlight of our trip was the meals we had at Villa Alturas with their new chef Roberto. Being able to roll out of bed and up to the pool to have a fabulous breakfast on the patio (included in the price) each day was a bonus! We had three dinners while we were there and each one was memorable. Since it was considered the rainy season (although it was gorgeous while we were there) we had the place to ourselves and received superb treatment. The salads were prepared from local fresh produce and were excellent. Each night the fresh fish and shrimp we requested were artfully prepared with unique sauces, perfectly cooked vegetables and rice. But the desserts were astounding. While the pineapple mango flambé over ice cream and the tangerine lime pie were fantastic, the coconut flan cheesecake with roasted coconut and raspberry sauce was the highlight. We feel like we made some lifelong friends at Villas Alturas and can’t wait to come back again and explore more of the area and spend some time with our “new family” in Dominical. Once the restaurant is open during the busy season, even if you aren’t staying a Villa Alturas, make the trek up the driveway before sunset and enjoy what Roberto, Tom and Ivette are making that night…you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: All of the rooms have spectacular views. We stayed in Villa #4.

Thank you so much for your great review review. We all here at Villas Alturas really enjoyed having you three wonderful ladies stay with us during your trip to Costa Rica. We loved your feedback, honesty and help with developing our menu and trying some of our new and exciting dinners and desserts. We loved your laughs and smiles and watching the monkeys eat all the fruit. We hope to see you again on one of your future trips.

We stayed 5 nights at Villas Alturas. The Villas are perfectly located in Central Pacific Costa Rica and we explored and enjoyed all this region has to offer: National Parks - Manuel Antonio, Marino Ballena, beautiful beaches - Playa Uvita, Playa Hermosa, Playa Ventanas etc. etc. not to mention Dominical and Poza Azul waterfalls in Dominicalito - nice and refreshing swimming.
All together - real paradise. We enjoyed local food very much, especially ceviche.
The hotel has a magnificent view and staff was super friendly and helpfull.
We highly recommend this beautiful place!!!

We stayed one night, breaking up our trip. There were 10 of us, so we pretty much filled up this intimate little hotel. The suites were very nice. The view, magnificent. They made us feel very welcoming, although they were a little unorganized when we first arrived. We had asked to be met at the San Juan airport, and the driver and bus were quite comfortable. The food was good and the staff was very accommodating. I wish we could have stayed another night. They arranged for a masseuse (2 actually) and we enjoyed a massage on the quite private deck in front of our suite. It was a lovely stay.
