“La Palapa was upscale with great, if somewhat slow, service.”
Reviewed May 14, 2012

White Table clothes, great plates and restaurant ambiance. It's an upscale restaurant in an area of surfer burger shacks and small sandwich and eatery places. The goat cheese salad is great and the better main dishes were the beef with mushrooms, the saffron prawns and the pesto gnocchi. Stay away from the tuna appetizer - too cold and flavor is not great. The menu is generally a bit uninspired - most of these dishes you can find prepared in other fine restaurants. However, they are all done very well and the service is upscale. The decor is fantastic.

“Superb food, great service”
Reviewed May 12, 2012

I have stayed at the hotel previously, 2 years ago, and was very impressed by the quality of this resort and especially the food and service in the restaurant. Not cheap, but excellent value and lovely atmosphere. Had a fabulous lunch (sea bass with a dill sauce) beautifully presented this May. Highly recommended.

“Dinner in the Jungle”
Reviewed May 11, 2012

Tucked away in the side of a hill is this lovely open air restaurant. The hotel associated with it is hardly visible due to the lush jungle environment, leaving the landscape uncluttered. A grand staircase in the parking area leads you to the bar and restaurant. The outside walls are open from about chair rail height to about 7 feet up, offering a splendid view of the jungle foliage. You are outside without being in the elements. The dinning area seats approximately 40 - 50 guests. We ate there 4 times and there were never more than 25 guests. There were couples and grous as large as ours (8). I would give the food 4 out of 5 stars, with certain items receiving a 5! The wait staff was helpful and well trained. The night skies are black and the stars are shining, unless it decides to rain...but they escort you to your car or taxi with an umbrella, so all is well. You can hear Howler monkeys and birds as you dine. They take time to prepare your meal so don't be in a hurry, relax and enjoy the ambience. We had some picky eaters with us and everyone was happy with the choices available.
