If you like Hawaiian coast-like views, birds galore, and complete quiet and escape from the rat race...we cannot imagine a better spot on earth. My wife and I took a gamble staying here as this is still a relatively remote area (one of its key draws for us) and online reviews are scarce. But after 24 hrs to decompress, we fell in love with the unimaginable beauty of the area, the slow pace of life, the warm local culture, and just taking in the sights. We have already booked a return for December. The location is amazing with rainforest-covered mountains rising straight from the beaches. The villas themselves surpassed our expectations in terms of cleanliness, luxury and comfort - we stayed in Canto del Mar villa #29, it had every modern convenience including full A/C, full service kitchen (US style granite counters, fridge, etc), two bedrooms plus a futon, three bathrooms, satellite TV, washer/dryer and a great deck overlooking the Pacific ocean. We opted not to get the unit with the "pool" and I am glad we didn't spend the extra money because the pool I saw in the unit next door was nothing more than a outdoor tub, and we used the extra patio space when we had a sunset wine party with some of the neighboring renters. We were also literally minutes from a string of stunning beaches (monkeys in the palm trees right on the beach, cave formations and islands right off the shore, etc), so were in the water every morning and again at dusk. My wife also truly loved waking up to the sights and sounds of toucans, hummingbirds and a two-toed sloth on the tree right outside our window! On top of it all, we had a shocking diversity (considering that you are literally in the jungle) of good bars and restaurants - including an outdoor cafe run by a French couple (Exotico), local flavors in a cool/artsy space (Citrus), an Italian restaurant run by a Dutchman (Confusione?) and even a happy hour bar perched high in the jungle with amazing sunset views and $1 beers and $4 pizzas (the Jolly Roger, run by a former radio DJ from Pittsburgh). Worth mentioning that the Tekoa management team was very helpful acting as our concierge for restaurants, canopy tours, horseback rides, and a snorkeling trip. Our only negative comments - the development is still undergoing some construction, and you absolutely need 4 wheel drive to get around the area as some of the roads are steep. Overall, an unforgettable vacation and a place unlike anywhere we have been before - we will be back soon.
