The best surf trip I have been on by some distance. After spending a couple of (underwhelming) months in Australia I wanted to go somewhere that consistently had really good waves, wasn't too crowded and was cheap. When booking I thought combining those expectations would be a pretty big ask but I got more than I ever could have wished for at Lovina.

Firstly, there are a good mix of waves in the area that give you options for pretty much every swell size and direction. The wave next to Lovina, Ujong Bocur, is a 150m+ left hander that has little barrel sections and big walls. Probably the funnest wave I've surfed on my backhand and it didn't seem too busy. The beach break is around 20 minutes away by scooter and seems to never go flat.

Lovina itself comprises of some beautiful A-frame bungalows and a row of rooms in the main stretch of building. I stayed in both; each had fairly comfy beds, fans so it wasn't too hot, mosquito nets and bathrooms with sit down toilets, showers and basin. More than enough considering you'll be spending all of your time out of your room. The hangout/restaurant area has sofas, a pool table, some chess boards and provides some shade for the hottest part of the day as well as an upper floor with hammocks and more seating.

What really blew me away at Lovina was the service and the food. Joris, Fransiska and Edgar are amazing, they make each guest feel like part of the family and as a result everyone gets to know each other and the atmosphere is fantastic. If you need anything, all you have to do is ask and it gets done. The hangout area is kept super clean by the staff that work at Lovina so its always a nice place to be. The food was some of the best food I've ever eaten. Breakfast was a choice of pancakes or omelette, the lunches and dinners changed everyday and where always incredible. I have no idea what the dishes where called but it all tasted fantastic, especially anything with fish in.

Highly recommend this place to anyone who likes good food and good service. You could go here for a beach holiday and have a fantastic time. There's a ton of stuff to do other than surfing to keep everyone entertained. Can't wait to go back!

This was my first trip to Indo. I chose Lovina's because of the good reviews. They weren't wrong. Lovina's is more than a surf camp, it's an addition to Fransiska and Yoris home and they treat you like you are an old friend.

The food is amazing, the staff are so friendly, even the dogs are protective of the guests. The rooms are clean and comfortable. And they have their own bikes and surfboards for hire.

Henny, one of the staff is also a surfer and is more than happy to take you to her favourite spots.

As a surf photographer, there was so much for me to take shots of, I didn't see it all and I was there for 18 days.

There are great breaks within 30 minutes, the village is the same as it always was. The whole place is still raw. It hasn't been commercialized or destroyed by developers trying to make it westernised.

If you want a surfing holiday on a budget (but the amenities are food and service is definitely not budget at Lovinas), then check it out. There are reef and beach breaks that can reach 8ft (I have the pics to prove it) and don't want to be overcrowded, SERIOUSLY, have a look. You won't be disappointed.

And you will meet awesome people from around the world with great stories of their own.

LOVINAS. - If I could give it 10 stars I would.

I spent 12 nights at Lovina and couldn't be more happy with my decision to stay at this surf camp. The owners, Fransiska and Yoris, go the extra mile to make you feel comfortable and at home. They really make an effort to befriend you as well and I left feeling like one of the family. 3 delicious, surfer size meals are served a day (included in the price). Cold beer available to buy. Motorbikes are for rent and pretty necessary as some of the surf breaks are quite far away. Although the most famous wave, Ujung Bacur, is only a 200 m walk from Lovina. The basic rooms are very clean with a fan and a shared bathroom. There are also bungalows to stay in with a private bathroom that are still within a backpacking surfer's budget. There is stairs from the common area up to a loft with hammocks overlooking palm trees and the ocean. My favourite place to hang out in between surfs! Also had one of the best massages here in Indo so far. If your are learning to surf it is possible to take lessons with surfer girl Heni who will show you all the right places to go. Overall Lovina is a great place to stay and probably exactly what you are looking for. Thanks Fransiska and Yoris!
