Owner description: Boothill Graveyard was the Tombstone City Cemetery from 1878 to 1884. It was not called Boothill until the 1920s. Its occupants ran the spectrum of all the cultures and nationalities of early Tombstone. Cowboys who "died with their boots on" lie next to housewives, business men and women, miners, gamblers, ladies of the "red-light district" and all the famous and not so famous occupants that contributed to Tombstone's early history. By the 1920s, Boothill had fallen into ruin with many grave markers lost or unreadable. A group of citizens in Tombstone and Cochise County began the task of researching old burial records, consulting with relatives, older residents, and using all means available to identify the occupants and mark the graves properly. The task took several years and the efforts of many to accomplish. This resulted in the graveyard being restored much as it was in the early years when it was the city cemetery.

My husband Paul and I recently visited Tomstone twice in the last month travelling from Newmarket, Ontario Canada, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Boothill a was a treat. We are great western fans and were really pleased with way they kept up Boothill. The staff at the Cemetary were pleasant and a joy to talk to. we had a great time and recommend this for anyone who likes the old westThank you!.

Boot hill, acording to my mother, is not Boot Hill. My father was supposed to be part of a work crew that relocated some of the old graves in the 1950's. Tombstone is a great place to visit but it lacks in original historic value.

This was our last stop before leaving Tombstone. $2 donation per person. It was superhot, so we walked through quickly. It was nice and worth seeing just once. I have to admit after reading reviews on here, I am a bit disappointed to find out this may not even be the actual Boot Hill Cemetery site.

It was neat to see all the grave markers and we couldn't believe how some people actually died. Its free to go to however they do appreciate a donation to maintain the place. Overall, a must see in Tombstone AZ.
