Owner description: Boothill Graveyard was the Tombstone City Cemetery from 1878 to 1884. It was not called Boothill until the 1920s. Its occupants ran the spectrum of all the cultures and nationalities of early Tombstone. Cowboys who "died with their boots on" lie next to housewives, business men and women, miners, gamblers, ladies of the "red-light district" and all the famous and not so famous occupants that contributed to Tombstone's early history. By the 1920s, Boothill had fallen into ruin with many grave markers lost or unreadable. A group of citizens in Tombstone and Cochise County began the task of researching old burial records, consulting with relatives, older residents, and using all means available to identify the occupants and mark the graves properly. The task took several years and the efforts of many to accomplish. This resulted in the graveyard being restored much as it was in the early years when it was the city cemetery.

“Glad we went, but...”
Reviewed August 27, 2010

This was our last stop before leaving Tombstone. $2 donation per person. It was superhot, so we walked through quickly. It was nice and worth seeing just once. I have to admit after reading reviews on here, I am a bit disappointed to find out this may not even be the actual Boot Hill Cemetery site.

“Good Experience”
Reviewed July 30, 2010

It was neat to see all the grave markers and we couldn't believe how some people actually died. Its free to go to however they do appreciate a donation to maintain the place. Overall, a must see in Tombstone AZ.

“Boot Hill not all it seems”
Reviewed April 12, 2010

The Boot Hill cemetery at Tombstone has been ruined by someone who thought it should all look the same. The gravel walkways, the stones the same markers on all the graves do nothing for the authentic look of a cemetery. I wish i had been there when that decision was made!! Also, rumours that the "real" site of the cemetery was the hill you can see near where the "tourist trap' one is. I would hate for them to "generic" and "clean-up" the Birdcage the same way!!

“Step into the past”
Reviewed March 21, 2010

We have taken our family to the Boot Hill Cemetary twice and it has been great both times.

There's not much to it. You walk through the gift shop to get to the cemetary and the grave sites are all lined up 1 by 1.

Many of the sites are unknown people from history but there are quite a few that are fun to just read.

The site is kept clean and tidy which makes for a better experience.

Be sure to buy some fudge from the gift shop as it is wonderful.

Thank Andy K
