A friend and i stayed for four nights and were absolutely happy with the place. With the car it is only a short ride to Manuel Antonio and Uvita. Furthermore, in only 3 min one can go Matapalo and the best beach I visited in Costa Rica. Beautiful, no people and endless! If you are there, go for a horse ride! The hotel itself is very nice and clean. The owners are friendly and help wherever they can.

Stayed for four nights with wife and toddler son in spacious, clean, bright bungalow. Christina and Manuel were friendly, engaging and helpful. Had three course meal dinner the first night and it was delicious - check the prices before you decide to stay for dinner. Breakfast buffet was convenient and lovely and included. Rooms were clean, grounds were very beautiful and quiet except for crow of roosters in the early morning which kind of ruin any "wake up to the sound of the rainforest" ideas that you might have had. No AC but ceiling fans worked well. Laundry WAS pricey, we washed in the sink and hung on furniture under the ceiling fan to dry. Wi fi works on the balconey, but not so well inside. The pool was clean and a nice amenity. You must have a rental car to stay here, it's a 10-15 minute drive either to Quepos or to Dominical. It's a short walk to the small pulperias down the road but they don't sell booze. Go to Matapalo Mercado further east (< 5 minutes) of Portalon on the highway for beer (also for families go here for the beach if you have a day to spare, it is really nice break from Manuel Antonio). The first pulperia you come when driving AWAY from La Palapa, to the highway, had warm and friendly people and I enjoyed going there for snacks and small chit chat. The second Pulperia was not so helpful. This is a small, well run resort. We enjoyed our stay and chit-chatting with other guests, with Christina and Manuel over breakfast and dinner. Manuel I think would be an interesting guy to talk to about the grounds, flora, fauna. If we were staying longer I would have asked him to take me on one of his epiphyte excursions.

It was a very comfortable and relaxing stay.

I stayed here for 5 nights with my wife and 2 kids (3 and 6 year old).... We loved the area, Matapalo beach, the local soda's, etc... The resort was clean, we stayed in a bungalow withal fridge that came in handy. The resort pool was warm and clean.

We had to have some laundry done and found it very pricy at the resort.... If u need laundry washed go the little store in portalon, they can have it done for approx 7 times cheaper!!!

Depending if u like cats or not the owners cat was a problem for us at meal time.....

Overall this was a good choice for us with 2 kids and a vehicle....

We stayed here 4 nights and we had a good time. The resort is really remote, but if you have your own car that is no problem at all. Situated between Quepos/Manuel Antonio and Dominical/Uvita it's an ideal place if you want to travel around. Both Manuel Antonio and National Park Marina Balleno (both worth your time!) are at 30 minutes driving along a perfect-shape straight highway.
Lodges were good and clean and had a kitchenette (altough really little kitchenware and cutlery). WIFI is not accessible in the lodges though (we were close to the router and had a really bad signal). Breakfast is good. Environment is nice.

Great Bungalows with kitchen and hot showers sleep 4 with private patio in beautiful gardens. Take menu plan as Carolina cooks great Portugese food dinners $15. Waterfall limited access a must. Playa Linda deserted beach 4 km away Secluded near local village experience. Bring bug spray. Needs more trails to walk.

Cristina and her staff gave us a warm and friendly welcome and created for us the most wonderful Portugese (!)/Tico dishes ... Our bungalow was generous, squeaky clean, bright and colourful with a very personal touch of native art. No A/C maybe, but the natural ventilation and the fans keep you nice and cool. Breakfast is opulent and nicely presented in the central dining area amidst the flowers and butterflies of the tropical garden. Just what you need to wake up! We couldn't get enough of Cristina's home baked bread ... simply delicious as were the fantastic dishes she served us for dinner. For the nearby (almost deserted) beautiful beaches you do need a car, but the garden pool is a good alternative.
Every day it was like coming home - talking to a friend sharing experiences in these beautiful surroundings.
If you want clean and pure relaxation - this is the place to go!

I stayed here with a friend for two nights. We arrived at night which made it hard to see the sign but luckily I had a phone card and Christina gave me accurate directions and even cooked us a delicious late dinner (chicken carbonara). It is almost a kilometer east of the coastal highway, in the small town of Portalon, with an easy to identify gate and 24 hour secure parking. The grounds are expansive, with the pool and restaurant towards the side and the bungalows spread out enough to enjoy some privacy and hear the sounds of the rainforest. It is not within walking distance of the beach, but there is a waterfall that you can walk to and swim in that is only 1 km. away.

The room itself had a comfortable bed, great water pressure and hot water, and had plenty of space for the two beds, a dresser, table, and our gear (surfboards, backpacks), and we had a porch to set stuff out to dry. The wifi was excellent around the pool and restaurant, but was inconsistent in the room. It felt very safe and nice to be in a part of Costa Rica not overrun with tourists. From there it was only a 15 minute drive to Dominical to go surfing or 30 minutes to Quepos (plus another 20 minutes to Manuel Antonio National Park, where we hiked for the day).

One final reason why I chose to stay here is because they are involved with 'Pack for a Purpose', a non-profit that helps local communities collect books/medical supplies from travelers staying at participating hotels. Overall it is a great value and off the beaten track, so you still feel like you are in the real Costa Rica.
