“Great hotel”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

Beautiful hotel. Great location. The staff is wonderful and friendly. Not a pretentious hotel. No attitude. It would not be the place to stay if you are looking for a spa. Our family was in town visiting our son from ASU. We love the fact that you can walk to everything. The food is great. Quiet rooms. No noise in the halls, like other hotels. Clean, comfortable atmosphere.

This is my second stay at the Tempe Mission Palms and this visit was just as excellent as the last. The rooms are comfortable. I love getting an upper floor facing the inner courtyard where I can open the doors, see the palm and orange trees, and hear the fountains. The courtyard is a lovely, immaculately kept space that is perfect for a coffee in the morning or glass of wine at night. The rooftop pool is very pleasant, and we enjoyed playing tennis and shooting hoops with our teenage son. The staff here are very responsive to any requests made. Customer service is definitely emphasized by management and it shows in many ways. Regan and Karl, the concierge staff, are friendly and especially helpful and attentive to guests' needs. The location is great for a stay in the valley. Just a couple minute walk to the ASU campus (which is lovely) is great, and Mill Street (just outside the door) offers lots of selection for dinner, bars, and coffee (Starbucks or NCounter are 2 minutes away). Tempe is centrally enough located for exploring other parts of the valley too (like Scottsdale, the Superstition Mountains or other hikes).

A perfect stay. Great room and greater staff. The grounds are beautiful. Our window opened up and overlooked the courtyard. Gorgeous view! We were here for Angels Spring Training. The trolley pickup spot was only one short block away. The hotel location is wonderful... the Mill Avenue District is right out the front door. I would absolutely stay here again and recommend it to any one.

This is a beautiful hotel, very spacious and open, with fantastic grounds that are impeccably maintained. The rooms are very nice and spacious also. Very friendly staff in a great location. The meeting facilities are very nice and the food was a step above. I would recommend a stay at this property without question.

Booked this hotel on a recommendation from a friend who lives in the area. Couldn't have been any better. Hotel, staff, location, service....everything was excellent!!!
The smell that the other reviews have mentioned are the orange trees and that smell is nothing short of heavenly. Shuttle from hotel picked us up at the airport and then returned us on departure day. The hotel could stand to add additional patio chairs at the pool as they were hard to come by later in the day. The girl at the pool bar was great even though she was very busy. She remembered what we wanted and even the next day remembered us and what we had ordered. My husband left a purchase on the sofa by the concierge desk as we were waiting for the shuttle departure and we didn't realize it until we were at the airport, we called and they are mailing us the package. We spent a lot of time touring the campus of ASU as this was the reason for our visit and the location was perfect and if our daughter chooses ASU this will most likely be the hotel we choose when we return for visits. We did have breakfast in the cafe. We had the buffet and as per usual for hotels it was a bit pricey but we paid for the convenience of being able to eat right inside the hotel. The food was good with a custom omelet station included. We were not fortunate enough to have a courtyard view room and had an exterior room across the street from a bar/restaurant area. It was a bit noisy at night but this cannot be blamed on the hotel as they have no control over that aspect so I don't count it as a negative towards the hotel. We also had some very rude loud neighbors at 3 am but once again, that isn't the hotels fault and by the time we got ready to report it to the front desk it stopped. We did return one afternoon to find our room had not been serviced and it was probably 3 in the afternoon. We called the front desk and they offered to send someone up right away but we were fine with nothing but some fresh towels and those were delivered in less than 5 minutes. Really nothing significant to complain about that the hotel actually had any control over. We were very pleased with our visit and hope to return very soon!

Room Tip: ask for a courtyard view room where it will be quieter and you can open your windows to let in that...

This is very nice hotel - rooms were spacious and nicely decorated. My favorite thing might be that the windows OPEN! You can get fresh air in your room! The location is very nice. I hiked up the big hill behind the hotel and walked through ASU campus each morning. I thought the staff was excellent and very attentive. You are within walking distance to TONS of restaurants (as you are right near campus) and there is a Starbucks at the end of the block. There is a lovely courtyard in the middle of the hotel for a nice break in the sun. This isn't a "stay in the hotel all week" kind of place (the grounds aren't enormous) - more of a great hotel in a great location.

Room Tip: Rooms over the courtyard had small little balconies or doors that open - those facing outside did no...

Stayed here for Angels Spring Training. Perfect location - Angels stadium is accessibe by tram (station is next to the hotel parking lot) and the hotel is right in downtown Tempe, so restaurants and bars are right around the corner as well! A's stadium (Municipal Stadium) is a short walk away (~1.5 miles), but not accessible by tram.

Hotel staff, from the Valet crew, Front Desk associates, Housekeeping and Cafe were so welcoming, helpful and happy to assist. I checked in early after a 5 hour drive, but my room wasnt ready while I was at the desk... but not more that 5 minutes, the front desk associate, chased me down in the front of the hotel and told me a room just came up and had the key all ready for me!

The rooms were standard. Beds were clean and comfortable. The hotel pool is a tad small for Arizona, but I went early morning and was quiet and perfect. Watch out, a few tiles are loose in the spa, and my son nearly cut his hands on the jagged grout.

The cafe for breakfast was the only experience that I thought could use improvement. For breakfast, there was only one lady to seat guests, so with 3-5 parties piling up, there should have been at least 2 to minimize wait. The buffet selection was ok. The only thing that was really worthwhile was the made to order omelettes.

Overall, I would stay there again, but recommend eating breakfast at the Counter across the street. The wait can be a bit long, but at least the food and drinks are really yummy.
