This hotel is great due to its convenience to Mill Avenue, specifically its walkability to Rula Bula.

It is nice, but it does need some updating.

It would also be nice if there were disposable cups instead of glasses, since the glasses in hotels ALWAYS appear dirty (and this was no exception).

I thought this Hotel is a great place to hold a wedding. The staff made me feel right at home.

We stayed here Friday and Saturday night, 16-17 December 2011 for my wife’s employer Christmas party.

We paid a group rate of $69 per night ($79.54 with tax) which was an excellent deal. The full rate is $189 per night.

The ROOM was beautiful, spacious, perfectly clean and contemporary. The hotel was recently renovated. SEE PICS.

The BATHROOM was small but adequate. Everything was new and very nice. It took a lot of strength to turn the water restricting shower head, but which had a decent water flow.

The BED was very comfortable, although they short-sheet the comforter over a foot from the headboard so it does not completely cover you.

The modern HEATER/COOLER thermostat responds immediately when you increase or decrease temperature and is reasonably quiet.

The TV was a decent size 37" HD Plasma which was quite adequate. At least 42” would have been more appropriate I think. We had 32 Channels including HBO. Movies were expensive. We watched The Help which was recently in theaters for $16.38. That’s more than we pay when we go to the theater. It’s called gouging.

There was no microwave unfortunately, but we did have a small decent size fridge which was empty.

Our room (4th floor) was above the pool/Jacuzzi/fitness center/tennis courts area (second floor) and was very nice. I can imagine it might be a bit noisy in the summer, but not so for us. The pool is about 50m back which minimizes pool noise. SEE PIC

The FITNESS CENTER was very nice and new. It had a universal set, couple racks of free weights and a couple benches, 2 TV’s in opposite ends, at least 1 bike and I think about 4 or 5 treadmills. I can’t remember exactly. The JACUZZI was typical hotel warm, which is not warm enough.

The inner COURTYARD was very beautiful and relaxing. It is perfectly suited for a wedding as was demonstrated by a wedding during our stay. SEE PIC.

The CONFERENCE ROOM was very large with a dance floor and we had a band which sounded pretty good in there. The food was great except they put way too much pepper/garlic on the top of the steak which I had to scrape off. But both the chicken and steak were cooked well. The staff was very good and efficient.

DINING: We had Entertainment Guide BOGO coupons for their 2 restaurants Harry’s Place and Mission Grille and so we ate there for dinner and breakfast respectively. We recommend them both.

LOCATION: The location is excellent for the best place to be in Tempe, right off Mill Ave and close to Tempe Town Lakes. The Metro stops right next to the Hotel. There is a small Harkins Theater on Mill Ave which shows Arts/Sundance movies which we would loved to have attended had we known about it. Capriotti’s subs is down the street just off Mill Ave. A must do if you have never eaten there.

Room Tip: Facing towards the inner courtyard is probably best. We faced out over the pool area, 2 floors up, which we preferred. Facing Mill Ave could be a little noisy with traffic perhaps, but would not be bad view. The worst view would be facing East. See Google Maps satellite view. The Hospitality Suite is in the corner of the building in room 2038 and connects to the pool area. Considering all the noise our party made, I would not stay near there.

This is a large old hotel that was redone at some point. They redid most things, but the age shows through in little areas like old doors and gold doorknobs. From the other TA photos, I thought it looked amazing. Overall, it is a fantastic location, but not a 5 star hotel. The rooms were fairly clean, but hairs were on the bathroom floor and some gunk in cracks. We had a quiet stay, but don't think there were guests right next to us. The view from our window was of what looked like a grain elevator in downtown Tempe: odd. We looked at the pool and it does not mimic the photos: a bit small and dated. The lobby and courtyard were beautiful and very well kept up. There was a corporate Christmas party there one evening. The only service we used was valet, which was without issue and prompt. Overall, I may stay here again because of the price we found & its walking distance to downtown Tempe and events.

Room Tip: High floor

Stayed 2 nights during an interview w/ ASU. Great location to explore Tempe from and very convenient to the valley in general. Quick trip to nearby Scottsdale and Phoenix Mountain preserve.

Room Tip: Had a room overlooking courtyard. Was a bit noisy due to an event until about 9 pm. Not sure how loud a room not overlooking central courtyard would be as one side overlooks Mill Ave.
