“Fun in the sun!”

Tempe Diablo Stadium
Ranked #8 of 67 things to do in Tempe
Attraction details
Reviewed April 30, 2014

This was our first year at Spring Training. My biggest concern was that it was going to be too HOT to enjoy the games. Not so - though it was in the 80's for two of the three games we took in at Tempe Diablo Stadium, it was still only pleasantly warm.

I grew up attending games at the ahem..."newly constructed" Angel Stadium in Anaheim, so I wasn't sure I'd enjoy attending the spring training games as much. Other than missing having an announcer, it was truly a delightful experience. The staff was incredibly friendly, and we were able to get several autographs.

We had read several reviews suggesting people not waste their money by buying tickets in advance...had we not done so, we would have missed two of the three games, as they were sold out in advance.

Fun stuff! Same time next year...we'll be there!

Loved Diablo Stadium. Great view from all seats. Love how the vendors come to the seats, never have to get up! Plenty of nice clean restrooms. Good variety of food. Great place to watch baseball.

The Los Angeles Angels make Tempe (Arizona) Diablo Stadium their spring training home....for many years. Located an easy jog of I10, the ball park is in the center of a major complex of baseball fields (for the Angels minor league teams) and recreation facilities. Access and parking could not be easier.
The stadium, as many Spring Training facilities, has an outfield grassy berm where young and old alike spread out blankets and watch the game. Concessions are just steps away. In the Arizona sunshine there is no more idyllic spot to spend a lazy afternoon.
The grandstand is partly (but not much) covered from the sun. Half is chair backs, half benches so if you call for tickets next spring, ask the box office....and ask about the sun as well.
The views are excellent. Close up fans can hear the exchanges between the players on the diamond. Frequently when the starting lineup ballers finish their 5 or 6 innings they go to the first and third base lines and sign autographs for their many fans.
The grandstand is filled with concessions with the usual burgers, hot dogs, popcorn, sodas and beer. In deep right field there's an aromatic bbq area with picnic tables----perfect to take a break while still being able to see the game action.
Parking is free and plentiful and very well "orchestrated."
Bathrooms are plentiful and clean.
Walkways are always kept open by the polite but firm security guards so the standing room fans don't inhibit the flow of vendors and fans.
Tempe Diablo is one of 15 major league spring training stadiums. It is often sold out due to the proximity of Phoenix to Orange County, California and their legions of fans. If you want good seats (and most are) call well ahead of the game(s) you want to see.

Nice ballpark, but not much in terms of things to do for the kids. Seemed a little confined compared to couple of the other ballparks that I was able to visit.
