“Just go, it's amazing”
Reviewed February 2, 2014

This museum is run by students and they are very helpful to explain the different works of Art. The main objects are from cheramic, fiber and wood and the standard of the works is high.

“The best art museum in the Phoenix area”
Reviewed January 3, 2014

This is an intelligent, well curated gallery, absolutely the best in the Phoenix area - it should be promoting itself better. It also should make more of its proximity to the Frank Lloyd Wright buildings just behind it. Fabulous exhibition this time arising from the Japanese internment in WW2.

“What else is there to do in Tempe?”
Reviewed November 24, 2013

I think the architecture style is called "brutalism". Heavy, ugly, confusing and intimidating. Where a building should say "welcome", this one says "get lost". But don't. Find your way in and have a look around. The modern art is almost all of a ceramic or sculptural style but with many creative uses of different materials. Be sure to visit the Ceramics Research Center across the street. It's really just a continuation of the museum. It's also the place to park for free in the clearly designated spots and sign in at either place. If you park in the main museum lot, be sure to pay; the fine is $100 and they are very vigilant enforcers.

Not really worth 4 stars, but hey, it's free, so it's great value.

“unappealing architecture, lots of empty space”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

The main museum was designed by a well-known Southwestern architect but this is not one of his successes. Half the building is made up of wide staircases leaving little room for the galleries. Visiting the ceramics museum across the street is a much better experience.
