I went to this park twice: once it was a during daylight, the other to contemplate the Tempe Boat Parade. During the day you can see it's a nice park to walk/jog or even have a picnic. During the Boat Parade it really was cold and very crowded, but very nice to see so many people there to see the illuminated boats to festives.

The only thing it's a little annoying is the fact that the park is in the runway to the airport! You can see a plane in the sky every minute!

So much fun! Probably my favorite attraction in all of Tempe. There was a great boat rental place with tons of kid friendly options. Made my trip completely worth while!

Tempe Beach Park is laid out along the similarly misleadingly named Tempe Town Lake. I don't recommend visiting the "lake" or the "Beach Park." Both are a desperate and misguided effort by the city and the chamber of commerce to pretend Tempe is an oasis in the desert by creating an expensive and wasteful water feature in the Salt River flood plain. It is little more than a superficial visual amenity. The "lake" is a long, narrow and virtually sterile reservoir of pumped groundwater lined by a concrete bank with two inflatable dams at each end to hold the water in place. It's not useful for much of anything and it has no ecological function. It is only functional as an expression of resistance to the reality of the desert. Although I admit that the lights of the Mill Ave bridge look nice reflecting on the water at night. The linear park is a good place to get exercise: walking, jogging, roller blading, biking. It runs along the "lake" for more than a mile. Be aware, however, that there is little shade or shelter and a lot of brick and concrete, so if it is a hot day you will be uncomfortable.

Ride your bike along the canal paths or on the Greenway from the north. Circle the lake on a paved path, including a bridge for walkers/bikers on the west side of the lake. Many watercraft on the lake, including paddle boats and rowers. On the south side of the lake, east of ASU, visit the Mill Street District with many viable lunch options.
