Love to take the dogs for a nice long walk here. Also great for roller blading, kayaking, and events such as concerts and festivals.

“Nice stroll”

Always something going on at the park. The war memorial was there when we arrived. People paying their respects to our warriors. It was a nice day. walking along the lake watching the ducks and other birds. You can rent boats and eat hot dogs , the kids could get their faces painted. Great day....

“Run around the Lake”

Great place for a run if you enjoy walking or running this place has it's charm! What I don't like is your in the path way of incoming flights flying in to Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix. It can get pretty loud between monday thru fridays from 10am-4pm.
In the late afternoon to evening is the best time for your walk or run.

“Eid Picnic”
Reviewed September 5, 2012

I recently visited Kiwanis Park in Tempe, AZ for an Islamic holiday celebration. This holiday was Eid. Eid is an Islamic holy day of feast and celebration which follows and marks the end of Ramadan. Ramadan is a holy month in which Muslims fast from sunrise to sundown, and through the whole Muslims may only touch food and drink during dark hours. This event located at Kiwanis Park included free “carnival like” foods such as pizza, chicken, snow cones, and cotton candy. The quality of the food was average at best.

The entertainment included a kid’s jump house, a petting zoo, volleyball, basketball, and music. The cultural aspect of this event was not really present during my visit, although the festival had some meaning it seemed like a regular not well organized event. Most of the audience consisted of elderly parents or small children. This made the experience much worse for someone my age. (17) There was virtually no way to cool off and it was over 105 degrees outside, and there was not a bathroom in sight. I must criticize the way the organizers had children helping out on the snow cone and cotton candy machines just made the lines slower and longer.

The location of the event was poorly located at the least convenient area of the park available and organizers could have done a better job of choosing a better spot. The event started at 4pm and ended at 8pm and should either be moved next time to start early in the morning and end before 1pm or start later in the day and end before 9p. Overall the organizers could have chosen better staff, a more convenient location, a larger variety of foods, and made the event more cultural. I suggest maybe some background information and religious talk next time, and maybe some live performances. I would give this event 1 out of 5 stars, possibly 2 out of 5 stars if I were an elderly parent or younger child.
