We had stayed at this hotel last winter and were enormously pleased with every aspect of our stay. In fact, I posted the glowingest review ever.
This time, we were sadly disappointed. The booking glitches -- the clerk took down the wrong email address and when I finally got my confirmation i found that it was for the wrong number of days -- were neither here nor there. But when we arrived, the clerk rolled her eyes at our hopes for an early check in. We also learned that only one of our two simple room preferences could be met, even though I had booked two weeks in advance. I was told that they consider the preferences mere "requests" and only look at them on the morning of -- because they have lots of other things going on. Clearly guest preferences are not a priority. The clerk gave us four choices: suck it up and see what was available the next day, go somewhere else, have a room on the requested floor with the wrong bed, have a room with the requested bed on the wrong floor. We opted for the third choice. Our room faced an incredibly noisy power plant (something to do with the air conditioning?) and a Carl's Jr. sign that was on all night. So we couldn't have the window open, which would have been OK except that the room had a faint but nasty smoky smell. The sheets were suspiciously rumpled and the one blanket as thin as those sheets. Which was also unfortunate, as the heat didn't work in the room and we were both cold by just before dawn both nights. I know: heat in Phoenix in April! But we were cold, our bad. The morning clerk didn't know whether or not the heat was supposed to work.
We may or may not give this property one more chance on our next routine visit to Phoenix.
