My wife and two young teenage daughters stayed here a little less than two years ago and we've been talking about it ever since. So we jumped on the chance to return when we were in the area.

A quick recap for people who aren't familiar with the concept:

The giant lobby is also a bar, arcade and hangout space. When we checked in last night there were hipsters on laptops, a family shooting pool, some young people playing foosball, etc. This property seems to attract an ecletic mix and I think that's pretty cool. You get a free cocktail on check in and they have a decently priced beer and wine list as well. There's free crackers and Skittles and some tasty looking food you can purchase as well.

I can't stress how much fun the lobby is. It's huge, has a ton of comfy sitting and the free games are awesome. There's two arcade games with dozens of games on each all set to free play. Galaga? Joust? Pac-Man? Yes, yes and yes! The main attraction for us is the lobby, we could easily spend a few days here without leaving the hotel. Off the lobby is a patio with ping pong and a large pool. It was only 23 Celsius yesterday and although I'm pretty sure the pool is heated it was a little cool for our liking but we still enjoyed a swim (you can take drinks out there too, just ask for plastic cups). They also serve amazing free coffee in the lobby in the morning.

It seems like a lot of people have issue with the rooms and I totally get it but over all I think they're pretty cool. We had a two queen pool side room with a balcony with two comfy chairs overlooking the pool. These cost extra but I definitely think they're worth it (we're good elite and were fortunate enough to get an upgrade ... Marriott rocks!!!). The room is ultra modern and minimalist. Yeah, there's no dresser but who cares! The beds are super comfy and it's very spacious. I have a love hate with th e bathrooms: the giant rain head shower is amazing but the barn door and the shaded glass window to the room means a lot of light bleeds through. (there's a shade for the window but it doesn't help much). I actually showered with a flashlight so I wouldn't wake my family up!

Speaking of waking up...The lights built into the base of the beds are a really cool idea, they come on when you walk by them. But they're way to bright and sensitive. My one daughter is a very restless sleeper and tosses and turns a lot, Everytime her quilt dipped over the side of the bed it tripped the lights! Personally I think they should keep the lights but install an optional kill switch and dim the brightness of them significantly.

Over all this is an amazing place and I can't wait to come back

This is a fun hotel. The mixup rooms are quirky fun with a super modern feel. Barn doors to the bathroom and shower. No closets, but tons of ways to hang stuff.
You literally checkin at the bar and get a free welcome drink.

This location is right at the south end of Arizona State University so it’s and easy walk all over campus or to the stadium.

When I checked in to the Moxy, the receptionist asked me if I wanted a room on one of the upper floors or the lower floor. I asked for an upper floor, but nevertheless got a room on the ground floor next to the washing room. The room was VERY noisy, not only did I hear a lot of traffic passing by, also other hotel guests arriving through the backdoor made a lot of noise. That same night I went to the receptionist to ask for a more silent room. The receptionist told me there was only one room left... facing an even noisier road. I decided to stay in the room on the ground floor and complained again the next morning as I didn't sleep a wink. I immediately got a room on the 4th floor facing the parking lot - no need to wait, it was already available at 7am (and in fact had been available all night long). So the first receptionist who said there wasn't any other room available was simply lying? Such a poor staff/service, not recommended at all!

Room tip: ask for a room on the 4th floor facing the parking lot

I stayed here in the past and again this year. Got to the hotel early and got our early check in. Hotel hasn't changed much other than the downfall that you now have to pay extra for parking, despite the hotel having their own parking lot.

I see that parking issue in Vegas starting to occur, but not in a town like Tempe or anywhere else where the hotel isn't sharing a public parking structure like a few other hotels do in the area, which seems to be pretty common with shared ones, but not when the hotel has their own.

Other than that, you still have to pay extra if you want a pool side view with the balcony, if not you will have a parking lot view without the balcony at all. So always keep that in mind if you want to pay the extra for the balcony rooms.

Staff was friendly as always, still get your complimentary alcoholic drink, Skittles and other treats on the other side of the bar for free when you want a little snack, breakfast is still served (which I've always managed to forget about) and 24 managed desk.

Lobby is still very big with lots of activities, such as the computers, board games, bikes, table tennis outside, video games (The Kiss pinball had a flipper stuck and the stand up video game with all the other games was out of service to my dismay), large screen TV (though no sound turned on when I was staying there) and other things I'm probably forgetting.

Room hasn't changed and still has fun little quirky things around. It seems there's always something new in the room every time you enter it that you didn't notice before, making it still one of the funnest hotel rooms I've stayed in around the world. Only downfall as I reported before in the past, is there is no ice machine or room fridge, but that's probably due to their eco theme or something.

Bathroom is standard, though my room this time, the shower doors wouldn't quite stay shut and would often slide open, though not a big deal. The other issue was the water was always too hot, even at the lowest setting I found the water to never be really cold. Again, got used to it and didn't need to really mention it. Don't recall that before so could have just been the room or maybe an issue with the heating or something.

The pool is still fun, though I noticed less "pool toys" than in the past, or more like different ones, but still had fun throwing balls to each other in the pool and it was always nice and refreshing.

Again, not thrilled with the new parking scheme with now paying for onsite hotel owned parking, but I'm sure I'll be back again down the road as I've stayed in pretty much most other hotels around ASU now over the decades and despite being one of the furthest from Mill Ave and a walk to the stadium, it's still a decent location, with easier access to US-60 for my hiking needs and easier to get to and from even from the 202, despite being a bit further away from other places. So location is still decent and in some ways works better...

Room tip: Pool views with balconies cost more than parking lot rooms without balconies

The hotel design is nice and it is cool to look at all the art and have games in the lobby. The front desk\bar staff were nice. The location is great if you need to be close to ASU.
The room was spacious but part of that is due to not having any dressers or a closet. It was clean but had some broken tiles in the bathroom. Beds were comfortable.
During our stay the elevators were down daily and we were stuck in one for about 20 minutes. The stairways were not air conditioned so walking up them was not ideal. The first floor was flooded every day and the carpet was just a big gross puddle. We had to request extra towels and pillows several times before they were brought up. The room was not cleaned until about 5:00pm or later. They also charged our credit card daily with charges that were not ours, it was over $400.00 in charges. This was on top of the entire charge for our stay. When we asked about the charges they stated since they were pending there was nothing they could do. For all of this we were offered 2,000 Marriott points. I don't think we would stay here again.

Dear valued guest,

Thank you for your feedback. Yes, it was very unfortunate that the perennial Monsoon Rain had flooded some area on the south side of the building. Fortunately, our staff were quick to respond to this type of situation and had fixed the problem in short period of time. Please let us know what we can do to try us again next time. Thank you.
