Has been our favorite Mexican place in our valley. We were welcomed with smiles and big hello's. Not too long a wait, were told 20 minutes and it was exactly that. The booth seat was ripped, not a nice site or comfy to sit on. Did not sit in the back room but did notice they do need a bit of clean up in the back room also, it's been a few years since they opened here. Nice décor. Did not like the old beat up looking vending machines racks with gum balls and plastic prizes in the front of the place, kind of an eye sore, does not fit well with your décor, could use that space for people waiting with a couple more chairs. The menu has lots of great items, food is great consistent recipes, chicken enchiladas were fresh tender chicken, great beans and rice. Fajitas were fresh and tasty.Burro de carne was a good size meal, good beef, always good portions. Sorry had to downgrade the review to average this time only because of the waiter. We waited awhile for a waiter to approach. Usually they bring chips and salsa right away, did not get any of that until the waiter finally came and we had to ask him for it. He looked at us dumfounded and said oh you want chips? Looked like 1 person who was the bus person for the whole restaurant including also being the chips and salsa person was pretty busy. Waiter could have brought them to us. He never introduced himself never smiled, asked us "what do you guys want to drink? Well first of all the "guys" thing is irritating. and second of all he could have enticed us with maybe saying how about a mango or strawberry margarita or maybe a nice cold negro modelo or a cold soft drink or even, I can give you a few minutes to check out the drink menu. We finally got our chips and salsa delivered by the one and only bus girl, who was smiling, and then the waiter showed up with 1 of the drinks and later the others came and then it was the " what do you guys want to order?"
ok so we ordered, all went ok, however never got water refills, he zipped by while we were almost done and asked " how are you guys", not would you like another cocktail or beverage how is your dinner", it was too late at that point, then he came by later, it was the " do you guys want anything else" . Well maybe he should have enticed us again with ,"maybe you would like to try some fried ice cream or fantastic sopapillas", but nothing was offered. He just was not looking like a happy camper. And then it was the, I will bring you guys's checks. Can't stand the guys's thing. He seemed to get chummy with another table, spent more time with them. Did also notice the area where the servers all come and go was quite dangerous with a few crashes going on of servers and trays. The front door staff has it down well as does the food which is always very good and consistent. However, Time to spiff up your servers with a little customer service, smiles and happiness and food and drink enticements. Will we go back, yes because of the food, Surprise loves Rio.

Our favorite Mexican restaurant, although they do have a nice selection of other types of food as well. Consistently excellent service to go along with great Mexican dishes.

Starting out with the jumbo Margherita was probably a mistake for me! It's was excellent for a house Margherita but very filling! Chips were perfect and salsa had the right amount of heat. I had the chile rellenos and my mom had the beef enchilada. Both excellent. I was so full when I left I needed a nap! Atmosphere was comfortable. Not all seating is equal we asked to be moved from our original seats. Booth was uncomfortable so we went to a table. We ate at 3:00 not crowded but still customers. Bar looked inviting and friendly as well.

Our group of 6 arrived at 5 pm to a full house because it was Wednesday night happy hour! After a short wait we were seated. Our server, Jose, was delightfully funny and very attentive despite being responsible for several large tables. Drinks, chips and salsa were refilled quickly. The house margaritas were on special and were quite good. The decor is adorable - lots of hand-painted furniture and walls.

Everyone in our party enjoyed their food, which arrived very hot. Several of us had the combo 6 green chile burro and cheese enchilada, smothered. The shredded beef chimi was also a hit. Almost all of us took leftovers home - big portions ( and we ate too many chips!).

We have been here twice now and it was consistently delicious. As reference, our family typically prefers Tex Mex and this seemed more traditional - still very good!
