Owner description: Welcome to the Central Hawkes Bay Settlers Museum. Take a step into the everyday life of early settlers in Central Hawkes Bay. This area is rich in history, Waipawa being one of the oldest towns in New Zealand. The varied collections are displayed in an authentic way so visitors can imagine what life used to be like in colonial time of New Zealand.

I challenge you to find the one and only piece of plastic in the museum. And while you are at it, check out the wooden waka, fine crystal goblets, silver trophies, sackcloth aprons, and heaps of heavy metal. It is all polished and displayed so that the finest detail is within sight. Most poignant for me was the classroom of the late 1800s. Get a grip on history in this authentic, well cared for Settlers Museum situated in the former Bank of New Zealand building on the Main Street of Waipawa.

This is a worthwhile place to visit. It is what you imagine a museum should be. There are so many things to look at , I wish I had more time.
Definately stop and reminisce, it is a little gem

This is an old style museum where they are constantly adding to their collection.
Well worth a visit if you are passing through!

Great little museum. Took me back to my childhood with some of the items on display. A small museum but lots of items to look at. Its a couple of dollars to have a look around but worth it.

It's easy to drive through Waipawa without stopping a miss this little gem of a museum, but it's well worth a stop for half an hour or more. Although some displays are behind glass, there is a lot you can touch, and really get a feel for how the early pakeha settlers lived. It's delightful and I enjoyed it very much
