Make sure you have ID and all your insurance papers to get onto the base. That is the biggest hassle. The museum tells a wonderful story with lots of other history about both the area and the base. It took us 2 hours to visit as my husband was always taking time to read all the descriptions.
The story of the Buffalo soldiers would be appropriate for children of maybe 8 years or older. All adults would appreciate a very different life that the black soldiers endured in the army of the late 1800s and early 1900s. Make sure you take time for a look at the historic buildings - driving tour map sometimes available - and if hungry ask about eating at the OCS.
