We loved staying in this homey and roomy house in mid March. It is located on quaint Defuniak Street, a block and a half from the beach and the center of town. The town is a village with some of the homes dating from 1930 onward. Some of homes are being updated or torn down and rebuilt. There is a section on the western edge of the town that are more modern, on stilts, and close to the Dunes and ocean. (We have stayed in that area in the past), but this house, named "Salty Sisters", is located in the more quaint area lush with trees and gardens.
The owners supplied 2 bicycles which we used every day to ride around town, along 30A, and to the nearby state park which is on the beach. The interior is immaculate and very spacious. It is not fancy, new or decorated high end- but everything-furniture, appliances, showers-are in good condition. It is more welcoming and comfortable than the pictures!. There are 2 bathrooms-but one of the bathrooms has 2 separate showers and there is a large counter in the upstairs bathroom. The front porch which has large screened windows to let in the breeze with a big table for meals, games, reading. This porch was our favorite area to hang out and adds a lot to the house. There is also a back screened in porch overlooking the yard-which has no furniture. We did not use them, but there are new tv's in the family room and 2 bedrooms. The house has photos of a group of friends (The Salty Sisters) who grew up in the area at different ages and shows the owner on the beach here as a child and at present.
We brought 2 dogs and we were VERY grateful to find a pet friendly place in the town. There is not a fence around the yard (although adjacent yards' fences surround most of it-just a little bit of added fencing could make it a great yard for dogs).
We would definitely recommend this house for anyone who wants a roomy place that is comfortable, welcoming, with a great location, and who doesn't need to have everything new or "high end".
