“Relaxed Comfortable Inn Surrounded by Nature in Grayton Beach”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 23, 2008

Travelling on business in Pensacola with a weekend off, I decided to check out the Emerald Coast of Florida. I did not make an advance reservation at the Hibiscus, but with good fortune I found this peaceful haven in Grayton Beach. My room, the hibiscus room, was the cheapest at $120 a night. As a budget minded traveller, I found this area overall to be quite expensive so the rate was a pretty good value considering that a filling, healthy and yummy vegetarian breakfast was included. If you are not an early riser like me, I would recommend that you do NOT choose one of the rooms above the cafe. The cafe begins bustling at 7am and may disturb those who enjoy sleeping late or seeking quiet space. The facilities (bed, bath, internet connection) were all good. It was a little chilly the first night as my room did not have its own heater. Fortunately, I had the place to myself so I turned up the heat in an adjacent room. I found my room to be the perfect size for a solo traveller, maybe too small if you are travelling with a spouse or friend. The mature, natural landscape that surrounds the inn is fantastic. The friendly staff are available during the day. After hours is available by phone. --- Grayton Beach is sandwiched between Destin/Miramar beach to the west which is bustling and crowded. Watercolor/Seaside/Rosemary Beach are to the new exclusive communities to the east which seem to sterile and plastic for my liking.

  • Liked — grayton beach location, natural surroundings, free bikes, breakfasts!
  • Disliked — stretched my budget.

We recently spent 6 days at the Hibiscus Cafe and Guesthouse
It does not get any better than this.
The room was clean, cool and comfortable. The Bathroom let me just say One of the best showers I have ever had.
Breakfast at the Cafe is prepared fresh with flavors worth savoring.
Offering a choice of gourment Coffees.
Cheri & the Staff are outstanding, They make you feel relaxed and comfortable from the moment you arrive.
Hibiscus Cafe and Guesthouse is the perfect location for those seeking a simple peaceful enviornment .
The beach is just a short walk past beach cottages ,and friendly folks.
Grayton Beach and the surrounding community is beyond words It really is " A little piece of Heaven "

If you're looking for charm and casualness in a one-of-a-kind B&B, this is the place to go. Bicycles are available for guests to use for free for tooling around to the nearby restaurants, retail, beach, and state park. The cafe offers complimentary, substantially sized breakfasts to guests, beach towels were made available to us, and the basic amenities like an iron, blow dryer, etc., were available. If you're in need of services like a consistent Internet connection, functioning cable, electrical outlets that function properly, etc., this may not be the place for you. Then again, most people on vacation need little of that type of service. Though we were in one of the smallest rooms on the property (really too small for two adults), the bed was comfy. Water pressure in the shower could have been much better, too. In all, you get tons of laid-back atmosphere, central location, charm, and friendly people at this location.

  • Liked — charm and atmosphere
  • Disliked — modern day luxuries like lack of Internet service quality, water pressure, small room size, no working outlet in restroom

Found Hibiscus on web search when we decided to take a tour around northern Florida. Left Tampa and headed to St. Augustine for two nights, then on to the panhandle.

The web gave a glowing review of the Grayton Beach area and mentioned the Hibiscus. To me it looked very interesting and of the type of accommodation that would appeal to both my wife and I, so I made reservations (by telephone) for a couple of nights.

Upon arrival we couldn't have been more pleased with the inn, the room and the cafe. The owner who checked us in gave us the best room in the house as it wasn't booked for the days we wanted. Breakfast in the cafe was superb and the coffee delicious. The room itself was the best, with a very comfortable bed, old fashioned wardrobes, a great sitting area and a wide porch with Adirondak chairs that enabled us to just chill for three days.

The little village area provided shops, restaurants and bars with entertainment to satisfy the need to get out, although I was pretty content with enjoying nature from the front porch.

We were centerally located and able to take advantage of many of the area attractions and restaurants throughout the South Walton area.

We will definitely stay there again, as a matter of fact that is what I am doing on the computer now - making reservations for the end of October. By the way, October in the panhandle is a great time as the crowds are thin, the weather is fantastic, the gulf is warm and the people and employees are more relaxed and at ease and welcome you with open arms.

  • Liked — On site coffeehouse and the great room furnishings that made for real comfort.
  • Disliked — Some activities required driving.
  • Tips/Secrets — If you choose the Hibiscus and Grayton Beach --- wind down and relax!!

We loved the house! A short walk to a beautiful beach. Within walking distance to a great seafood restaurant/market. The house is big and looks brand new with lovely furnishings. Three miles from Seaside and 10 minutes from Destin. Pool was just off the back deck. We will definitely stay here next year!
