My partner and I stayed at Gay Hawaii B&B for a week and loved it. The house is very well equipped, spacious, comfortable, stylish and had us feeling like we were at home. I felt that staying there gave us an authentic experience of what it would be like to live in Kalapana, and being able to walk to Uncle Robert’s Awa Bar (and, more importantly, home afterwards) made the location perfect for our needs - Uncle Robert’s was more fun than Waikiki. We saw the glow of the lava in the distance from the nearby stunning seashore and it was only a short and beautiful drive to Kehena Beach. Risk of having the car broken into at Kehena Beach seems to be overstated – there were so many people around where the cars are parked (on the main coastal roadside) that it’s hard to imagine it being a huge issue. We’d be back to stay at Gay Hawaii B&B without hesitation. Oh, and Dwight’s Watsu and Lomilomi massages are wonderful and he’s a very friendly and helpful host.

Room Tip: The Paradise Room is worth the extra cost.

You don't have to be gay to stay here. This part of the island is very open and accepting to all. Very comfortable house. Room was clean. Fresh Fruit for breakfast. The people who manage the house are very nice, warm and friendly! Great sleeping weather as you hear the rain at night and the sounds of nature.

We used the outdoor shower all the time. SO amazing to shower under a mango tree.

This place is on the "red road". Beautiful road along the coast. Take a drive, pull over along the way and take in the views. 3 minutes from Kahena Beach. 9 minutes from "downtown" Pahoa. 30 minutes from Hilo.

Staying here really gives you a true sense of the "Hawaiian" way of life. Laid back, chilled, relaxing.

Can't wait to go back!

I'm one half of a straight couple that stayed at Hale Lalala, which is a B&B next door to Gay Hawaii B&B and has the same owner. It's a wonderful place, very comfortable, very friendly, beautiful grounds and great location. We stayed in the garden room, which opens directly to the yard, and woke up each day to a spectacular view of the dawn.

The house is free run style, so all the equipment and ingredients are provided for you to make your own coffee and breakfast. It's the kind of place where you can feel totally at home.

Aloha from Gay Hawaii Bed & Breakfast! Such a great place in one of the most beautiful places on earth. So easy to walk to the newest Black Sand Beach in Kalapana, which is right up a short path from Uncle Roberts Awa Bar. The B&B is immaculate and Dwight the owner is such a sweet and intelligent guy. My favorite part is definitely the outdoor shower and the fresh picked lilikoi from the yard. Can't wait for the watermelon papaya! Many mahalos Dwight and thanks for all the aloha spirit you have provided thus far!

My partner and I just returned from a fantastic 10 day stay at the Gay Hawaii B&B. Dwight the owner is super friendly and very knowledgeable of the area. We love this undiscovered part of the Big Island and are in the process of building a home here. The guest house is very close to all the attractions in the area which include Kehena Beach, Kopoho Tidal pools, geothermal hot ponds and just an hour drive away is the Volcano National Park. Another nice thing about the location is it's walking distance to Uncle Roberts which is a Wednesday night event for locals and tourist to get together to enjoy music, great food and drink. Local farmers and artist sell there wares. The Gay Hawaii Guest House is very spacious with a nice lanai where you can hear the sounds of the ocean. We stayed in the master suite which includes a private bath with shower but we choose to use the fantastic outdoor shower. Dwight had the kitchen stocked with lots of breakfast items including eggs, milk, bagels, granola, coffee and the best part chocolate cover macadamias. The internet service worked very well. Dwight also offers massage service which feels great after a long day exploring the island, We would highly recommend the Gay Hawaii Bed and Breakfast. We really felt like we were staying at a friends house. Dwight thanks for making us feel at home and we look forward to our move to the Big Island.
