Love this hike. Up and down in a little over 35 minutes if you're in pretty good shape. Very moderate but not very well known. A good hike all around.

This hiking trail ascends Scheurman Mountain, but is easily do-able for most hiking skill levels. The well-maintained trail is easy to navigate and once on top you will have fantastic views of west Sedona and towards Cottonwood. Keep an eye out for javelin since they are active up here during dawn/dusk and during the day during cooler months. Parking is near the high school. This is a great hike for sure! Do it!

The Scheurman Mountain Trail was a peaceful trail with sweeping views at the top.
It's an ascent hike initially, and it has a rocky path in spots. Once on top, hiking across the mesa, the path is fairly level but does have rocks on it.

The trail is accessed just past the Sedona High School. There is a small parking area that held approximately 5 cars when we visited. No restroom facilities are here.

The trail starts along the fenceline of the high school’s solar panels and ascends.
As you move upward, you can see many red rock formations to your left, and glimpses of Cathedral Rock. At the top of the ascent, there’s a spur trail to the right that says Scheurman Mt Vista. It’s about 10 minutes from that point to the end. It overlooks the many canyons below and has a scenic view of Cathedral Rock off in the distance.

Working back from the Vista spur, we took the trail right and then traveled farther across the mountain. It was like hiking a desert meadow. It was calm, and there was no one else at any time on the trail. We were amazed since it was spring break season when we hiked it.

We did see a little snake along the trail, as shown in our pictures. Think he was a thornscrub hook nose, but a couple others think he may have been a small coral—(herpetologists, we are not!)

This hike was moderate, but for some the incline might be tough. It is 2.5 miles, up. Once you are on top, you feel like you are on top on the world.

This is a pleasant hike with gorgeous views of Cathedral Rock, Airport Mesa and the entire Carroll Canyon. The trail generally slopes gently, making the short trek pretty non-strenuous.
