Los Abrigados Resort and Spa
Ranked #42 of 48 Hotels in Sedona
Reviewed April 1, 2006

From the outside, Los Abrigados is immaculate - exceptional even. The landscaping is beautiful, and the resort even goes so far as to indentify the plants/shrubs with hand-painted tiles. The pool areas are well-kept and clean. Staff seems to be everywhere to re-arrange pool chairs and drive guests around on golf carts. While the outside & the lobby areas were a "10," our room - a Jerome - was maybe a "3." I wondered what kinds of rooms they were showing on their timeshare tours, because it couldn't have been anything like ours. Drawers fell out of our armoire, the couch was shabby, the bedspread old. That said, I must say that we did see evidence of updating: Some rooms were being beautifully renovated (we peeked) with gorgeous paint, new furniture and fuller-sized kitchens (current rooms have one TINY kitchen sink, a toaster oven, a mini-fridge and a microwave - no stoves). Let's hope the resort does similar updates to all of its rooms from its current 1970s look. The resort also has three restaurants on-site, internet access in two locations and is about 50 yards from a major arts district. The location is terrific. Also worth noting: Timeshare sellers abound. We did not take the tour, although it could have gotten us a free jeep tour and some resort bucks.

Just returned from a 2 night stay at Los Abrigados. I think the first review I read on this posting must have been from one of the owners...It was far from what they described. It is a motel. Rooms are dingy, bedspreads old and musty, very minimal water pressure, so forget a shampoo unless you are bald, and then there were the ants crawling all over the sink area. Upon checkin we were bamboozeled by the time share realator who offers '' free'' coupons and discounted rooms for the price of an hour and a half presentation...not worth it believe me!!! would never go back to LA or recommend it to anyone. No need to prebook in March...plenty of rooms in most of the hotels in the area ..much nicer too :(

We stayed with another couple, each of us having traded in for week. What a great time. The resort is peaceful, which was very nice. Each day we did either a tour (twice with Pink Jeep) or we did a local hike. The Pink Jeep Tours are outstanding! And the local hikes were unbelievable. It was great getting out and enjoying the beauty of the Sedona area. In the mornings we went into town for a peaceful breakfast overlooking the Red Rocks. Each day we also selected a different local restaurant for dinner. On the premises, the spa, fitness are and pool were all very nice. The rooms were acceptable, satisfactory, and very calming. Sitting on the outside patio was very nice. Why do some people complain about this resort? Well, it's not 5 star in the sense of a place where you're going to sit in your room all day! If that's what you want to do, go elsewhere! But everything else about it is 5 star. The location, the surroundings, the convenience were all terrific. The people were friendly - we never got asked about timeshare presentations at all. We would go back in a heartbeat!

This was our first stay as new owners. The one bedroom was adequate. I was a little disappointed that the room didn’t have a view of the red rocks from the patio but, my husband and daughter were fine with the room and it did have a full kitchen.
It was clean, comfortable and quiet.
The grounds and the Red Rock Fantasy were very pretty. We walked the route one night and then took a hay ride that was fun.
We ate at 2 of the 3 restaurants on site and both were good.
We also ate at the Oak Creek Brewery twice and that was excellent. The view from the restaurant is fantastic and the Chef is terrific. Highly Recommended!!!
Another recommendation for families would be the horse ride and cookout with the folks from M Diamond Ranch. These folks are very knowledgeable, friendly and hospitable.
The steak dinner was very, very good and well worth the money.
Our 12 year old really enjoyed herself with this activity.
One more note: We walked into Tlaquepaque ,stopped to listen to Robin Miller on the keyboards he was playing and ended up buying one of his CDs. I LOVE IT!
It is very soothing to the soul and just magical. I will be buying more for gifts this Christmas.
Sedona itself is beautiful and just makes one want to relax. Multiple visits are a must for our family.

If you've ever wondered why timeshare resorts have a bad name, you need look no farther than Los Abrigados. We stayed on the waitlist for over a month, waiting for a room at one of their resorts that would allow pets. Finally, we had to put our puppy in a kennel and settle for Los Abrigados. The day after we checked in, their salesperson called to say, "Guess what? We can move you to our resort that allows pets!" All it would take, she explained, was buying a $9,000.00 membership. They also misrepresented the package they had sold us, and were ruder than any customer service folks I've ever dealt with in my life. And all this for what? An older resort where even the "remodeled" rooms had gaps under the inside doors that were so big, I could fit my hand entirely underneath. Sedona is gorgeous, so please don't risk ruining your vacation like we did by staying at a place run by sharks.

As owners at Los Abrigados this was the first time we had stayed here. The one bedroom unit was adequate for the 2 of us, but the kitchen was hardly condusive to any serious cooking. The location was ideal for getting to Uptown Sedona (within walking distance) which is a plus with the high traffic in the area. The restaurants were excellent and had good food and service with comparable value for the area. We actually upgraded our membership to a 2-bedroom unit for future trips to the area so we would stay here again

We enjoyed three nights at Los Abrigados in October 2005, and I thought it was a wonderful value for the money. We are not timeshare owners, we simply booked the room via the internet, just like a hotel. First of all, we stayed in "The Inn at Los Abrogados Resort and Spa," which is a subdivision of the larger resort. At the Inn part, the rooms are just like regular hotel rooms, except they have a little more kitchen-type services.

We liked our room just fine, and we loved having a hot tub practically all to ourselves. (The Inn has its own hot tub.) We also had massages in the resort spa, and they were wonderful! We did not use the pool at the resrt, so I cannot speak to that. Also, the resort now has a wonderful shop off the lobby, a Son Silver West store. I found beautiful and very resonably priced items in the shop.

Most of all, we liked the location of the resort. It abuts Tlaquapaque, a great shopping center in Sedona, and is a short drive from uptown Sedona. (That's also the only bad thing. From our room, we could sometimes hear bands playing at the shopping center restaurants at night.)

If I were going to Sedona again, I'd definitely consider staying at Los Abrigados. We really enjoyed our stay there.
