“No hot water, no information”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2009

The resort "lost" its hot water on 8/7 in the morning. We checked in that afternoon and were not informed. We had to discover that on our own. Though they were dilligent about trying to fix the problem, they were NEGLIGENT about communicating with guests. We got a form letter on the 11th. We were among the few who had their hot water restored by the 4th day, but still...

Not only did they not communicate with us, they offered no "comps" at all! I was infuriated by how they handled the whole situation relative to their guests. I seriously doubt if we'll ever go back, even though we are timeshare owners there.

We had a good time at this resort. It was walking distance, for me, to the main shopping area and had a nice little mall attached. I was happy with my unit and loved the little kitchenette. The only problems were that there was construction on the main street leading to the resort and the parking was very tight at times. The unit was nice, a bit small for two adult and two teens but manageable. We didn't use the pool, too cool outside for us, but I did enjoy the free internet in the lobby. I was particularly impressed by the gym. Very good because of the Spa. Usually you would have to pay a fee for such a well equipped gym at a resort. Yes I did see a cockroach or two but the maid cleaned the unit and I guess you just get them in that area.

OMG people please read the several reviews that are printed. We got into the room, looked around it was ok. Then it all begins, we killed a roach as it crossed the floor, We turned on the bathtub outside and as i am sitting and the jets come on, roach's came out of the jets and surrounding us as we sit there in the bath tub out side suite- we jump out screaming, as we were sitting there freaking out trying to rinse the roaches out- there were more coming in on the porch. We left the light on and they were flying in to the porch, we turn it off they were still coming in. As we were watching all this we heard screams from the room next to use sighting roaches were in there!! then as we walked around the property we again were walking over roaches. When we check in there were no real concerns of the emplyees of other peoples issues, never the less we did order dinner in and when another roach walk by, we stop eating, left the bottle of wine and the 130.00 dinner and we called the front desk and check out. So we stayed appx 4 hours and paid 300.00 for it. When i check my account they had over charged the room at 550.00 (Kris did correct all the over charges) and plus additonal charges. When i did call the resort, i got ahold of Kris who was so nice and helpful and agreed there is a roach problem at this time and wished we would have complain more before checking out the same night . I told her as far as we witness there were no other options for rooms that they all seemed to be invested. She did credit me a 75.00 fee, but again, driving an hour home at 10 o'clock at night was not how we had hope to spend our 5th anniversary. Oh well, no we will not be back and or refer this location as a stopping place. Be sure to take some RAID with you- your gonna need it!!
Regretfully roachfilled moments,

i was invited here for a timeshare presentation so we stayed for a cheap rate and thank god for that. if we had to pay the going rate, i would've checked out early.

THE GOOD:
the resort is in an excellent location, basically connected to Tlaquepaque, so it is very central and close to everything. the grounds are well kept and the lobby and its staff are nice. the on-site restaurants are decent and the bath products are exceptional.

THE BAD:
like most reviews have noted, the hotel's rooms need an update ASAP. the giant wooden headboard reminded me of a bad 70s basement to go along with the ugly pattern on the drapes and couch. the carpet in the bedrooms was so gross that i wore my flip flops in the suite the whole time. the tile floors in the kitchen/living area were wiped down with some kind of sticky wax that made my feet turn black so again, i never once took off my shoes. when we got there, the fridge was warm so i cranked the temp up to "MAX." after dinner we did some light grocery shopping for the suite and were surprised to learn that our fridge was still warm. someone came by to check it out but he launched into a spiel that i'm sure he's had to repeat everyday about how the fridge is not a real refrigerator, it's an "energy saving cooler." basically it's like one of those red playmate coolers you take to a football game. the freezer works but there are two small holes for the cold air to travel into the fridge compartment to keep your food cold. we even shoved the ice bucket in there to help keep our new groceries cool but again, it's not a fridge so DON'T BUY REAL FOOD TO STORE IN THE FRIDGE BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH IT LOOKS LIKE ONE IT IS NOT A REFRIGERATOR. and to conclude our spectacular first day, a 2" black roach ran across the kitchen floor. i have a photo of my deceased roach roommate but chose not to post it on this website.

THE TIMESHARE MEETING:
i will say that the sales people were nice but they stole 2.5 hours of my life that i now want back. even when i told them that i had a spa appointment, they kept bringing out new people to try and convince me to buy a week at their roach motel. there was even one guy who said "look, i'm not a sales person, i work for the resort's management. but do i have a deal for you! for $XXXX we will offer you this." if i really did have a spa appointment i would've been late so they were not respectful of my time. best part of the timeshare meeting, THEY FILED FOR CHAPTER 11 BANKRUPTCY THIS YEAR.

We exchanged our Marriott timeshare for a week in Sedona at Los Abrigados and loved every minute. We went to a presentation (no pressure whatsoever!) and ended up buying another week here. Much easier to book the exchange you want with all the available sources.

The rooms were very clean but, as others have said, rather dated but they are in the process of remodeling and we were able to look at a remodeled room. The only drawback was there is no oven in the kitchen. Two burner stovetop and microwave. I can live with that just fine!

The grounds are just beautiful and so relaxing. I spent mornings sitting by the creek watching ducks and a beautiful Blue Heron. There is so much to do here on the grounds alone. Plus a free shuttle bus picks you up on the road and takes you to the nearby shopping and restaurant areas (walking distance if it wasn't so hot.) Grocery stores a short distance.

Our TV started having problems on Sunday night around 9pm. We called the desk and got immediate service...new TV within 20 min. Can't ask for more than that. Personel were friendly and helpful. I'm trying to book another week in October already!

We booked 7 rooms for a family wedding - the event was not on this property.
Beautiful property, excellent beds (I slept very well), playground for the young (mini golf course), 3 pools, very good restaurant and walking distance to many other restaurants and shopping. There is not a bad view in any direction. Anyone that has not been to Sedona will be pleasantly surprised by the physical location.
The Los Abrigados property is very large, at least 15 buildings with 100s of rooms, so the service was very formula oriented. Little to zero personal attention, yet they would answer questions and give advice if asked, but nothing extra.
Property does not have wifi reachable from every location, only near the main building and only 7 am to 10 pm. we asked for rooms together or nearby, but were spread all over the place. Only one room was moved on day 2. Others that asked were expected to pay a relocation fee of $25 - on top of the nearly $200/day room charge. Since we has asked for the nearby rooms in November 2008 we did not think this reasonable.
The Housekeeping and grounds people were better informed than the front desk staff about local directions.

We are owners at Los Abrigados & cannot say enough good things about the resort grounds and the setting. However we just returned yesterday 4-13-09 and were not impressed by our suite. Our 1st visit was 15 years ago and our recollection of the suites was quite different form the reality of our suite on this trip. The Room was adequate but needs to be updated and the decor and furnishings should reflect a resort with a 5 star rating. The Varsity Club in Tuscan was much nicer with a full kitchen and they used every square foot to maximize the size of the room. Los abrigados needs to take a very serious look at their rooms and their layouts before continuing with their current updates. Also internet in the rooms would be nice. We found the staff to be very helpfull at all times during our stay. They even booked our trip to the Grand canyon and the Verde Canyon train ride. The food on site is wonderful and right next to the resort is the Tlaquepaque shops with a great mexican restaurant. You would be hard pressed to find a nicer location and setting in sedona. The onsite spa and fitness center is also nice and they do offer some free classes.
