“Viva La Villa!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 2, 2013

To celebrate our 40th anniversary we booked a room at Canyon Villa B&B for four nights. Here is what we found: a quiet, clean inn; a comfortable, immaculate room with private patio that gave us a stunning red rock view; a lovely pool area; delicious breakfasts served to us as if we were royalty. But that's not all. Delicious appetizers from 5 pm to 6 pm. BYOB or buy nearby). A tray of fresh cookies or brownies put out in the early evening... Les & Peg and their excellent staff know what they're doing, folks! They were friendly and helpful in any and every way possible. They care, and it shows!

This was the perfect place for my husband and I to spend a much needed weekend alone! The views from the Canyon Villa are incredible, and there is nothing like waking up with the red rocks outside the window. We enjoyed a hike along Oak Creek one day, then came back and had a refreshing swim in the beautiful pool. The nightly appetizers were a very nice touch, and the warm sweet onion dip was my all-time favorite! Les and Peg obviously care very much that everyone is taken care of, and also gave us excellent recommendations for local restaurants and hiking trails. We will definitely be back!

Having looked all over the country for that special getaway location to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary, we quite by accident discovered Canyon Villa. We had never been to Arizona, and never heard of the red rocks of Sedona, but after pouring over hundreds of websites of B&Bs in the area and attractions in the Sedona area we decided, based upon the great reviews, to try Canyon Villa. We are from upstate New York, and one of our concerns was traveling to Arizona in June and the possibility of excessive heat.

Upon arriving in the village of Oak Creek, we were immediately stuck by the awesome beauty of the location and were invigorated just by the scenery. Upon arriving at Canyon Villa, we were greeted by Les, who gave us a full tour of the facilities, and we both immediately knew that we had made the right choice. On first impression, Canyon Villa far exceeded our expectations! From that very first introductory tour, we both commented that our planned 6 day stay should have been longer! The breakfast area and living room area were absolutely beautiful with the large glass windows and the magnificent views of Bell Rock and Courthouse Butte. Binoculars and telescope were available for up close views of the mountains. A well stocked library rounded out the common areas of the B&B with a great selection of reading material, guest computer, menus from all the local eateries and books covering the local area. Les was very helpful in suggesting local restaurants, and if needed, would make reservations for us.

We stayed in the Manzinita room and every morning were greeted with the view of the sunrise bouncing off Bell Rock and the ever changing red hues and shadows as the sun rose higher on the horizon. Same with the evening sunset. Absolutely magnificent!! As an added bonus, the expected heat of Arizona did not live up to its expectations and in the evenings we turned our air conditioning off, opened the windows, breathed in the fresh, cool air of the evening and savored the quietness. In the morning, being early risers, there was always fresh coffee available and we enjoyed sipping our coffee while sitting on our balcony enjoying the ever changing views of Bell Rock, the coveys of quail, families of rabbits and numerous song birds that frequented the scrub brush just over the back fence.

The breakfasts were spectacular in presentation, prepared with care and very tasty! The morning conversation with other guests was pleasant and enjoyable, usually mounting to the customary introductory conversations and quickly moving on to the sharing of stories of our daily explorations of the red rock area. During our visit, many of the other guests were from all parts of the world, including Italy, Germany and Australia bringing a unique perspective to our breakfast conversation. What a joyful time breakfast was!

As the breakfast menu was posted the day before, if there was ever an entrée that we did not care for, the staff was very happy to prepare an alternate breakfast and did not make you feel like a pest for asking. Truly gracious in all respects! Also, one morning we had to leave early and they prepared a small box breakfast for us to go.

One big bonus to us was that Canyon Villa was not actually in Sedona. We traveled to Sedona one day and upon being greeted by the touristy hubbub and crowds of Sedona, we never went back and thanked God that we were not staying in Sedona. There was nothing there that was peaceful or quiet! Canyon Villa, however, was on the edge of the small quiet village of oak Creek, and the only time we saw that town get busy, was on our final Saturday when traffic did pick up. There were very good restaurants in Oak Creek, thus eliminating the need to travel to Sedona and dealing with the crowds and noise.

Within walking distance there are great hiking trails that go around Bell Rock and Courthouse Butte with incredible views from the trails. We found the trails to be easy to navigate and well marked. Early morning hikes before breakfast were the best time to go as the morning air was cool and the sun rising on the red rock formations was unbelievably beautiful!

All in all, having traveled to many areas of the country and stayed at many B&Bs, words cannot express how pleased we were with our stay at Canyon Villa and would highly recommend staying there for a pampered, quiet, relaxing getaway. It was hands down, without question, absolutely the finest B&B we have ever encountered. Our heartfelt thanks to Les, Peg and staff for their meticulous efforts in making our 40th anniversary getaway a very special time.

The Canyon Villa B&B may be the best one I have ever stayed at. Not only is the view from each bedroom's window incredible (the inn is right next to Bell Rock & "The Courthouse" which both loom in their reddish splendor over the carefully tended garden); the hosts have thought of absolutely everything their guests might desire, from soft bathrobes to evening snacks. And the breakfast is opulent! This is, for sure, the place to select for a few days of sight-seeing in the Sedona area. We loved every minute of our stay.

First of all, you can't beat the views--Bell Rock and the Courthouse just past the pool with its beautifully landscaped gardens and bird visitors. Second, the hosts seem to have thought of everything! A nice cushy robe to wear indoors and for trips to the communal fridge, a terry robe for the pool, a DVD with info on Sedona, a separate washcloth just to clean the red dirt off your shoes...etc. And third, the breakfasts are decadent and delicious! I'm still pining for the cinnamon rolls. Les gave us lots of great tips of things to see in the area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to be back.

We returned to Canyon Villa after approximately 10 years from our first visit as we enjoyed the personal attention to our needs and the intimacy of the inn. Les and Peg are wonderful innkeepers! We are bed & breakfast people who seek out the best of the best when we travel. Canyon Villa rates a 10 out of 10. The people we met while on vacation/anniversary celebration at Canyon Villa were wonderful. The breakfasts' are truly awesome and unique. I especially liked the upside down peach french toast. The innkeepers at Canyon seek out quality in the food and juices they present. We were treated to fresh peach and grapefruit juice and loved it! We were seeking a relaxing vacation this time around and Canyon Villa is the place to do same. The pool and landscaping are wonderful. The view of Bell Rock and surrounding Red Rocks were a wonderful blessing everyday. GO TO CANYON VILLA ... YOU WILL LOVE IT!

Room Tip: As far as I know, there is no room service; however, they do accommodate special requests like glass...

The Canyon Villa B&B is a very beautiful place to stay!  We
spent only one night because of our plans, but enjoyed it
immensely.  The views are wonderful and our room was
first class.  The location allows one to visit some of the
famous rock formations of Sedona.  It is a very relaxing
place to stay.
