Lush without being ostentatious, a trip back in time (the resort dates from the 30's) with almost every modern convenience, rich foliage and plantings smack dab in the desert. Our women's hiking group just spent 3 nights here and found it a marvelous place to base, relax, convene, and step away from hectic lives. The best feature: great outdoor breakfasts with Oak Creek splashing below, peace-inducing grounds, comfortable beds and handsome interiors, cabins tucked here and there, the innkeepers (Polly, Steve) who were ever-helpful with hikes, reservations, timing our drives. The worst (and I can think of no other) : no WiFi unless you were at the office, which didn't open until 8 AM. Suggestion: staff the office beginning at 7 AM, and have coffee available for people who need to log on before breakfast.
