Elote is, truly, one of the great restaurants of the world. One must try "elote," the signature appetizer -- amazing! And, as exceptional as are the main dishes, seriously consider an entire dinner of appetizers ... they are all so fine and allow for more sampling of the chef's remarkable creations. The margaritas are unique, the desserts are delicious and, rounding out the experience, the staff is superb. Sedona has many very fine restaurants, but only Elote makes my "best in the world" list. Fair warning ... no reservations, and you'll wait ninety minutes. Bring a book, or go shop the nearby galleries while you wait ... worth every minute!

The food was very good (I wouldn't say outstanding)...and the service was also very very good. The view was FANTASTIC. All in all, this was a good dining experience. I had a chili rellano type of meal. Also the marguertia was good. They had some exotic varieties I heard are excellent. Here is a tip: they open and 5. If you get there about 4:30 or so (at least in December), you can stand in line and get a table when they open. Otherwise, you will be waiting quite a while to get a table. They don't take reservations. The service is pretty fast...they have to be with the amount of people who want eat there.

The food and service were first class and it would have been 5 stars but for the prices and the long wait (45 Min) to get a table. Be warned this is a very popular place especially in season.

A 30 minute wait in the line out front at opening time was well rewarded. Certainly the environment inside is a bit quirky, but has great views of the red rocks. It's attached to an old hotel and I applaud the owners maintaining the low key location in light of the rave reviews and success. The signature elote appetizer is fantastic, the margaritas stout and exceptional, and every item I tried was a beautiful combination of flavors and textures. The menu is small, which is a good thing in my opinion. They do a few things and they do them well. Service was professional and prompt. Some reviews have knocked the product being underwhelming based on the hype, but keep in mind this is northern Arizona. Good service and excellent food are a rare find. In this context Elote is a standout and a gem. I will happily return.

If you want a higher-end Mexican restaurant in the Sedona area, think about Elote Cafe and expect a wait. Make the wait a lovely time to enjoy a margarita and some of the free, spicy popcorn out on the outdoor patio while enjoying the views of the red rocks. In the cold weather, there are heaters and blankets to keep you warm. As locals, we try to get there a few minutes before opening (5 p.m.) to get the first seating. If we miss that window, we truly do enjoy waiting the half-hour to 45 min.--a great way to socialize, people watch and anticipate a great meal!

While this restaurant is a little crammed, it has a wonderful feel to it. It's a happy, loud experience with great, homemade chips and salsa. Most everything is delicious, especially the lamb adobo, the elote appetizer, carnitas and chile relleno. Check out the menu at: http://www.elotecafe.com/sedona-restaurant-dinner-menu.html

Keep in mind that Elote is closed on Sundays and Mondays.

Chef Jeff Smestad does a wonderful job and has a great crew! Thank you, Jeff, for coming to Sedona!!
