“Red rocks and roll”

Ranked #2 of 157 things to do in Sedona
Certificate of Excellence

I agree with all other reviewers that the Sedona red rocks must be seen in person. Pictures (cliche but true) really cannot capture how phenomenal this drive and the attractions are. And, you can see the major sites in one day if you don't hike. Definitely stop at the red rock ranger station. I was clueless and the ranger mapped my whole afternoon in 5 minutes.

The road way is winding and slow, but it sets the stage for the Sedona area. If you really want to enjoy the views, pull off and just look.

Okay, really I am referring to the amazing rock scenery that is everywhere in Sedona. The peaceful, expansive views invite you to explore on the many well maintained trails that are as easy to access off the Byway as pulling into a gas station. Most trails do not require a side trip off the main road just to get to the trail head. You just pull into the parking area, hop out of your car, and start walking. Trails are well marked and maintained. Makes me wish I lived here so I could hike everyday in such beautiful and easily accessible surroundings.

No words to describe, you have to be there. Pictures will not give justice. if you drive by 179, roll down the window, turn the car stereo and just enjoy it. Stop to one of the parks and enjoy it further, have a leisure walk. "Stop and smell the roses " literally because you are on vacation.
