Be aware of the long drive from Sedona. GPS does not work, neither Google maps (no phone connection--ATT). About 4 miles of dirt road--quite rough--our miniwan took it though. They ask for reservations--we missed our timeslot by 30 mins since we miscalculated the distance but they let us in. There is a small dwelling--we were disappointed since we had been to Walnut Canyon near Flagstaff. The wall paintings were below average. A surprising bonus was being so close to the massive cliffs--we took some beautiful pictures. Go only if you have time.

If you go to Sedona, don't miss Palatki Ruins! Some words of caution before you go: be aware that you have about 2 miles of dirt/gravel road to travel. That equates to about 20 minutes of driving. To see the ruins, you need to make a reservation. Plan your time accordingly. Be aware that there's a little hiking to get to the ruins.

That being said, the payoff is huge! There's a 1000 year old dwelling to see, along with numerous drawings that are hundreds, if not thousands, of years old. These are the kinds of things you see on the History Channel. It's our nation's history, history that is a great part of this country.

It's actually located at 6050 red canyon rd. don't use the address listed above! Make sure you call ahead so you can get up to the ruins and the grotto. The drive in is a couple miles on unpaved roads. It's not bad just be aware.

This is a great quick outdoor adventure. It's a pretty quick drive from Sedona (about 20 minutes), though the last few miles are on dirt roads. You need reservations in order to get a parking spot. The tours aren't guided, you just wander around and volunteers are standing in a couple of places to answer any questions you might have.

Step way back in time during this visit. We took the Pink Jeep tour and the guide was very knowledgable. Wonderful wall paintings and our guide was able to bring them to life with explanations of meanings. Watch out for snakes!
