We stayed here several months ago, and I wanted to come back and write a review. I'll do pros/cons/tips.
The property is small and compact, it's gorgeous & well-maintained, and laid out perfectly for privacy. The villas are comfortable, unique and gorgeous! WE LOVED our room (the Twin Kyody Villa) and were taken aback at how perfect it was set up. It was clean and spacious and just so relaxing. The bed was phenomenally comfortable! We had a nice view from our patio with landscaping and partial view of red rocks. I enjoyed sitting out there with coffee watching the bright blue jay in "my" tree flit around. We also spotted quail, hummingbirds, and a bunny from our patio.
The pool and flowers and waterfall area are SO pretty and relaxing. Everything is maintained perfectly. There is free water when you need it. The kitchen/common area is so welcoming and fun -- there is a Keurig with tons of options, free cookies and candy, and a breadmaker in every room. It makes the room smell homey and cozy.
They are a classy place but also kid friendly!
Breakfast is delicious!
Not many cons at all!
But I do have to say that although the breadmaker in the room SMELLS really awesome, and it's a great concept, the bread itself is perhaps a bit lacking in the gourmet department. I mean, it's breadmaker bread, not fancy crispy French bread like you'd get in a gourmet restaurant. It has a thick crust that's too dark in places, it's hard to cut, the inside is collapsed in places and lumpy in others, and it makes crumbs all over the floor like you wouldn't believe. If you've ever made your own bread in a low-end breadmaker, you know what I'm talking about. Does it taste good? Sure! Is it easy to cut and serve? NO! Just be aware. :) The bread knife in our room was so dull and flimsy that we almost broke it trying to saw at the bread, and had to call the staff for another one. When they brought us the new one, we collapsed into laughter (after the person left) because it was the same quality (or worse) than the original. Finally we resorted to just ripping the bread apart with our hands and spreading jam/butter on it. Tasty, but messy. Still fun, though. And it's all about the fun. :)
I think the garbage had not been taken out of the kitchen one night, because the common area smelled like rotten meat. If you've ever left chicken parts in the trash can for a few days before taking it out, you know the smell. It made it unpleasant to breathe while I got my Keurig coffee and free cookies from the lobby/common area. Later on the smell was gone, of course! But it seemed that for such a fancy/expensive place, they should be 100% on top of stuff like that. A miss...but forgivable, since everything was generally so awesome there.
I think they should have a bellhop or staff help bring bags and suitcases to the rooms, because you have to walk up a little hill and then up stairs. For our family it was no problem! However, if you need help walking or find it hard to cart your bags around, you may need to request extra help. I think they should offer it without anyone needing to ask...that would complete the 5-star feel to this place. I know it's sort of a "bed and breakfast", but it's also a very expensive resort-y place too...and a little more enveloping care would be welcome.
I didn't find the on-site staff to be as totally awesome and friendly as some other reviewers gushed. I mean, they were NICE...they were FINE...but that was it. I didn't write home about it. :) They weren't so solicitous that they knocked my socks off. They were adequate.
Don't cut yourself with the bread knife!
Ask for help if you need it with your bags...it may not be offered.
Take advantage of the yummy cookies and Keurig coffee in the common area.
