we're all formed by the places we grow up, and tend to compare everything to what was familiar. I grew up in Globe-Miami and Phoenix, and these places are the tastes I compare everything to. Mexican food especially, I can't get 'good' Mexican food where I currently live, and am always looking for what tastes like I remember. Javelina Cantina did not disappoint. We visited there early on a Friday evening. Service was excellent. Food was Great. We were members of the clean plate society that evening. Knowing that the chips we had at the table would be throw out we asked to have them bagged to take with us. They even gave us fresh salsa to go. That was a nice touch, and we enjoyed having a snack to enjoy on the patio at the hotel while we enjoyed the sunset. I'd go back in a heart beat, the flavors were spot on and not to heavy handed with the spices.

We enjoyed the happy hour specials and then headed outside to watch the sunset and the red-red-red rocks. We were treated well the food was good and we would go again.

After almost 13years we got back to the Javelina Cantina, and found out the Dinner still was good as it was back years.
The Prices range from 10$ to 16$ so everybody can find something. You get chips and salsa on the table. I would recommend the Taco Salat with chicken it was very tasty.

Went here for drinks and appetizers, but the rest of the menu look as good as what we had...jalapeno poppers. I realize that doesn't sound like much, but they were great. We'll be back for dinner one day. Very nice.

In the Hillsides shops area on SR 179, Javelina Cantina is one of Mark Shugrue’s successful Arizona restaurants. The Cantina has been serving house-made traditional Mexican food in Sedona for many years. The food’s consistent quality keeps locals, part-timers, and tourists coming in. The menu includes fajitias, carne asada, tacos, tostadas, quesadillas with chicken, beef, or fish and shellfish choices. Our super steak burrito came with beans, rice, guacamole and crème fraiche. The meat was tender and plentiful. The slow-cooked shredded beef machaca chimichaunga was served enchilada-style (green sauce for this diner) and came with beans, rice, guacamole and crème fraiche. The sauce was light; the beef was well-seasoned. Both burros were stuffed with the meats. And, huge! These Cantina specials were just under $15 each. The Cantina prides itself on its salsa and margaritas and rightfully so. Again, the servings are large. The restaurant offers special deals Monday-Thursday (e.g., Taco Tuesdays) and happy hour is daily from 3-6 pm. Yes, these tourists will return.
