This was an extreme surprise. This show had it all. If you love music and intimate settings, then you really should check out the Rock and Roll show. It was incredible. Loved, loved, loved it.............

We were staying at a timeshare in Sedona & saw an add for the show. The price included transportation to & from the show, a cookout type meal & the show. We did not think the price was too bad. The dinner was fine, nothing real special, but good & enough to eat.

Marvin Short is a talented entertainer. He plays several instruments & also sings. The female singer, Susie, sang a few Janis Joplin songs. I was never a big Janis Jopin fan, but Susie did a great job. Joe Cruz, the drummer, sang several songs. he is a wonderful singer. We were pleased with the show. It was something different to do in Sedona.

We attended a show during the first week of July and learned that there was a recent management change. That would have been fine, except that the liquor license was not yet transferred and BYOB was not allowed. For the ticket price, we had grilled hot dogs, hamburgers and baked beans for dinner in the outdoor patio. Beverages were not included in the price, so we had to pay additional money for our sodas/waters.

While the act (Rock n Roll Review) was mostly entertaining, it ran too long with a 15 minute intermission. Marvin Short is a talented saxophonist and an earnest host. His back up band was adequate. The sound was a constant issue with frequent squeaking feedback - and there seemed to be no remedy for it.

Overall, it would have been more palatable at a lower price point with no meal and a tighter, shorter set.

We booked tickets through their website www.encoretheatersedona.com based on Trip Advisor reviews. What a mistake! The small theater has open seating so advance booking offers little benefit. The website did not offer the senior discount, nor mention that it included 'dinner' of hot dog or hamburger pre show. Consequently, we paid full price and had no included dinner.

The theater seats 225 in stadium seating; however, only 36 people attended the night we attended. This might have been due to the recent forest fires in the area. Marvin Short integrates video and live performance so seats mid auditorium would be best, although we found the screen portions to be blurry.

Marvin Short is talented as is his keyboard artist. Others in his group can still grow. We found the performances to be repetitious and tedious and left during intermission. We don't understand the high ratings for this attraction.

The evening started with grilled hamburgers and ended with hot sax supplied by Marvin Short and his band.

Marvin has transported his talented saxophone playing to the Encore Theater from Branson, MO. The talented Short is an enthusiastic musician with a band composed of other talented musicians that bring back Rock and Roll numbers that delighted the audience the entire evening. This could be the start of a new entertainment option for people visiting the Sedona area if more performers migrate this direction. The theater provides an intimate medium for the performance and an opportunity to visit with the performers at intermission and at the conclusion of the show.

The pre show meal was like an evening cookout that sat the stage for an informal evening of nostalgic music by very competent and entertaining performers.
