We first stumbled upon El Portal during a free-wheeling road trip in the middle of January where we decided we would take a nightly risk and try to locate unique, high-end, and dog-friendly properties on our 3000 mile journey. Since then, we’ve been back a couple of times and always stay at El Portal. El Portal is located in the middle of Sedona’s Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts district, which has a ton of unique galleries and restaurants, and is within a short walking distance from uptown Sedona. You are never far from anything fun and interesting at this location.

The El Portal property showcases a unique Southwest meets Craftsman style that never fails to impress. Each of the rooms is unique and welcoming, some larger than others, but each stunning in their own ways. Some rooms have balconies and are dog friendly, others have fantastic slipper tubs that fit two people comfortably, others have spectacular views of the red rock rim, and each, nonetheless, is absolutely charming! While there are other high-end options in Sedona, El Portal truly is not a place to be missed and bypasses all the pretension and resort fees you might otherwise expect of a property of this class and quality.

Room Tip: No pet fees if you're traveling with your furry friends!

Recently, my girlfriend and I travelled to San Diego from Santa Fe. We wanted to take the dog and we're looking for a dog friendly place to stay along the way. El Portal presented itself as pet friendly boutique hotel in the heart of Sedona, right next door to the always classy, Tlaquepaque restaurants and shopping. Up the driveway to the front of the hotel and low and behold, the beautiful ivy vine entrance! You're surrounded by trees and are instantly cooler after stepping out of the 100 degree heat. The hotel is the classic hacienda shape with a lovely courtyard. The great room is the guest services, restaurant and cosy gathering space all in one. There is a self serve area that has a freebies and wine/beer on the honor system. The place is kind of craftsman meets the southwest. The fixtures and touches appeared to be hand forged. The silverware and staircase railings must have cost a pretty penny. The rooms we stayed in, #1 and #7 were unique and incredibly spacious. The double copper sinks in #7 were awesome with the blue patina. Just loved the beams above the bed! The staff was extremely helpful, friendly and attentive. I can't wait to go back during the winter and sit by the giant, river rock fireplace, sip some wine with my girl, pet my dog and play some Scrabble!
Regards, Peter in Santa Fe, NM

We stayed at the El Portal Sedona Hotel on a recent visit to Sedona, during the insanely hot June of 2017. But the hotel was literally cool, calm and collected.

Situated across the street from the Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village (home of one of our favorite restaurants, El Rincon), we found El Portal to be exactly what we needed in the middle of our exploration of Sedona (and a one-day trip to the Grand Canyon). Three of us were in the Governor's Suite, which was simply perfect. The service, the amenities, the management and the morning breakfast simply couldn't be beat. Even the afternoon snacks (wine, cheese, fruits, and more) were right on target.

We travel a lot, all over the world. But I can honestly say that El Portal Sedona was the very best place we've ever stayed. And for the record, we watched the sun rise each morning over the beautiful red rocks of Sedona, right from our bedroom window!!

Charming is the perfect word for this place. Quaint and charming. Each room is unique and very large and decorated beautifully if you like southwest furnishings. Breakfasts are wonderful here. At 5 every night they put out wine , salsa and munchies for their guests. The bathroom towels are very luxurious I would stay here again and definatly recommend el portal to anyone

I recently spent 3 glorious days at this wonderful hotel. The inn offers an Arts & Craft feel true to the Sedona area. Each room is different, all beautifully decorated. Totally comfortable and relaxing. Breakfast is offered each morning and comes highly recommended and is delicious. The staff is courteous and very helpful. They have excellent service and can arrange any side trips you may want to take. I would tell anyone traveling to Sedona that this is the place to be. The owners, Steve and Connie Segner are the best.Thank you so much for a wonderful enriching stay. I will be back for sure. Dorothy Bisbano, Burbank, CA

Room Tip: Room that overlooks courtyard and fire pit. Great place to meet other visitors.
