I really enjoyed staying at El Portal. The rooms are beautiful and each one is a unique design. The food is excellent, even locals come to eat there. The location is great and there are numerous restaurants and shops just a few minutes walk from the hotel. I left my phone charger in the room and the owner went out of his way to mail it back to me. Really couldn't recommend this place any more highly.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great. Some even have special private areas to walk your dog if you are traveling with one.

My husband and I were looking for a breakfast restaurant one morning while walking through Sedona. We asked several people and no one seemed to know any place other than the places along the main road. We walked through Los Abrigados and was directed up the hill to El Portal where we found a small sign stating breakfast was available even if you were not an inn guest. El Portal is a hidden gem. A delicious breakfast was served in a quaint Spanish adobe style setting, coffee and tea are self-serve.

We learned from a local that you can enjoy breakfast at El Portal even if you’re not staying in one of their boutique hotel rooms. The restaurant is decorated in a rustic and comfortable décor with beautiful large windows bringing the outdoors inside. The coffee was hot and strong and the menu was nicely varied. We tried the breakfast burrito, lemon pancakes, and French toast served with toasted nuts. Everything was fresh, well prepared, and tasty. This is a nice place if you’re looking to treat yourself to something special!

The Inn/Hotel really is unique, both in the individual styles for each room and in being dog-friendly. Afternoon snacks in the great-room with fireplace were very nice. What makes me hesitate about saying that our stay was Excellent however, is two-fold. First, we made reservations months before our visit and even got a confirmation email concerning our room and our guests' room a week prior to our reservation. A day later we received a call that our guests' room was double-booked and we needed to select another. That was bad enough, but when I countered that wasn't acceptable, the booking person became very snippy and said, "Well, then, I'll just let Steve (the owner) handle this," and hung up on me. I should have cancelled altogether, but it was too late to get alternate accommodations for our guests flying in from Minnesota. We did get an email, shortly thereafter, that our room reservations would be honored as we had made them, and the booking person gave a semi-apology when we arrived, but first impressions are hard to erase. I'm sure it was not retribution, but the night we stayed there, a family of dogs that cried all night in the room next to our guests kept them awake all night. The firmness of the bed in our room kept me awake part of the night.

Thank you for staying at El Portal Sedona Hotel. We're sorry your stay got off on the wrong foot. All of our online reservations are subject to confirmation, and we had two for the same room, same night. Thankfully it was straightened out in the end. And again,we thank you for staying with us in Sedona.

We just spent 3 days at the charming El Portal Sedona Inn with our dog. If I had to nominate a lodging in the category of Bliss, this would be it. The Inn is an adobe hacienda with only 12 rooms, each decorated in a unique style reminiscent of the 1920's and 30's. The attention to detail in the design of the building, and original antique furnishings gave the Inn that special touch that one yearns for, but is hard to find. The Innkeepers & staff have that graciousness that makes you feel that you are visiting friends. Every day I would look forward to the delicious breakfast and upon return in the evening enjoy a lovely happy hour and relax in front of the courtyard firepit. Steve arranged a jeep tour that was one of the highlights of our trip and also provided advice of attractions to see. In fact, I found the Inn's brochure the best guide of activities to enjoy while visiting Sedona. If you are planning a trip to Sedona, go the El Portal Sedona's website and book a stay. You won't regret it!

Room Tip: The Arts & Crafts room has a nice patio and dog yard. The website gives you a tour of each room and the rooms in person are even better than the internet tour.
