3rd visit to the Red Agave. The view of Sedona's Bell Rock is fantastic. It is pet friendly so we can bring our little dog along with us. You can prepare your meals there, but if you prefer to eat out, there are plenty of restaurants nearby. The grounds are kept up nicely and there is a hiking path just outside the property.

Great location and the view was superb. The chalet was quite nice with everything we needed. And a good location for side trips, like the Grand Canyon. We would definitely stay here again. The staff were very helpful as well.

I stayed here with my two (adult) sons last week and we had a great time. We used the BBQs and cooked one night and went to the local pizza place the other. The term "adventure resort" fits very well....we were here for the Jeep trails, the guys in the next chalet were mountain biking, etc. Great hiking with a trailhead within 50 yards of our chalet. Everything was clean and functional. We had pleasant evenings playing cards with the wonderful views right out our door. The only disappointment was no s'mores........it was too windy so no bonfire. We will be back!

Room Tip: All the chalets are similar

I recently stayed here with 3 girlfriends for 2 nights, on a "mom getaway." We stayed in the Boynton Canyon chalet, which is directly across from the pool, and the farthest from the trailhead.

The location is absolutely fantastic! There are some great (non-chain) restaurants within walking distance. (We highly recommend dim sum at the Red Chopstick Chinese restaurant). And, a trailhead (to Slim Shady and Canyon Circle trails) is adjacent to the resort, with the Bell Rock trailhead across the street. Being able to hop into the (heated) pool and the two jacuzzis after a long hike was fantastic!

The chalet itself was more than adequate for our needs. The kitchen is fully stocked with kitchenware, dish soap, plates and silverware. The coffeemaker and microwave were appreciated as well. The bathroom was clean and the water pressure in the shower was strong.

There is zero housekeeping service, and if you need to exchange linens or towels, you have to walk them down to the office yourself. This wasn't a huge issue for us, but I can see how this would get annoying after a few days, especially given the rates that are charged here.

Our three (minor) complaints:

The chalet we stayed in had a queen sized bed in the bedroom, with a full size bed and a fold out "twin" in the loft, with a sleeper sofa in the main living room. For 4 individuals, two of us drew the short straw with incredibly uncomfortable beds. The twin does not accommodate an adult, and the sleeper sofa was ridiculously lumpy and uncomfortable.

Also, we arrived a bit before check in (which ist 3:00) so the female working at the front desk took my cellphone number and said she'd call me when the chalet was ready. Four hours later we still had not heard from her . . . turns out the chalet was ready prior to check in after all. That wasn't appreciated as we had a few coolers full of food in the car.

Finally, we were using the pool and jacuzzis on the second night, along with several other people who were quietly relaxing after mountain biking all day, when a male (owner/caretaker?) came and told us the pool would be shut down prior to the closing time (10:00 p.m.) He didn't give a reason. Everyone was a bit perturbed by this announcement, as well as his attitude.

Overall, however, this was a great location for a perfectly adequate motel.

This is a well kept secret. The chalets are great for families. Space for the kids to run around outside without disturbing others. Pool was well used. Staff very helpful. But the most amazon aspect of this place is the views and access to trails. They are right there! Don't haw to use the car. Highly recommended this location over right in Sedona.
