“Overpirced for an average room”
Reviewed October 1, 2010

A long wait to check in - 20 minutes - followed by pressure to view the time share tour and completed with a very average - barely - room. This was not a great start to our visit.

I spent a week in Sedona at the Hyatt Pinion Point with my wife and another couple. I found this resort very good on certain criteria and lacking on others. I'm am speaking as a time share owner who is exchanging my week in a non Hyatt resort for a week at Pinion Point. We stayed at the resort in Mid-September, after the summer high season.
Let me start with what I liked about this resort. The size of this resort is just right. It is not to big that it over taxes the resorts facilities. The location in Sedona is exceptional. You can walk to many shops and restaurants and there is a free trolly that will take you to most of the city on a regular cycle. I found the staff very pleasant and no pressure to take a sales tour of the facility. The fitness center is first class and the pool area is very nice with exceptional views of the surounding hills. The pool is small and when the resort is busy, I imagine it can get crazy. The girls particularly liked the really nice robes that are available at the pool that can be checked out for the week for those cool desert nights.
Now for the bad. This resort is built on a hill. To get to our one bedroom unit with a lock off, making it two bedrooms, we had to go down 35 steps from where we parked our car. Be aware that there are a lot of stairs in this resort and the elevation is four thousand feet. The living space in our unit was smaller than what I have experienced in other resorts. Our unit was supposed to be able to handle six people yet only had four chairs at the dining table and room for four people to watch TV. The balcony is roomy and we spent as much time as possible on it. The furnishings were slightly above average but pretty typical for a time share. The imfamous door between the one bedroom unit and the lock off is a major problem. You can hear everything said in either unit because of the door between them. After the first night I told our friends that we could hear everything they said so we asked them to be kind when directing any comments at us. This could be a real problem.
The single most important criteria in my mind is the location and level of quality of this resort compared to what else is available in the area. It is not perfect but I would reccommend it to a friend for a place to stay in Sedona.

We exchanged a 2-bedroom timeshare for a lockout unit at the Hyatt. Four adults enjoyed 2 bedrooms, 3 balconies, 3 TVs, large kitchen and dining area, and all the lovely amenities of the Hyatt Pinon. Great workout room, lounge area with fireplace, library, and internet service, hot tubs, swimming pools, grills and dozens of chairs to just lounge and take in the red rock views. Weather was fantastic, especially for us humidity-soaked Floridians. Hiking to the nearby sights was invigorating, even for us seniors. On the Hyatt property was a fabulous shopping mecca -- art galleries, restaurants, (fav - Wildflower Bread Co.), souvenirs; walking distance to Uptown shops and tourist information center, not to mention the wild Javelinas (boars) just below our balconies! Two hours to the Grand Canyon. Fabulous Coffeepot Restaurant just down the road. Half a dozen great thrift stores in the area. I can go on and on...

Only one complaint: having the hotel built into the side of the mountains makes for a lot of stairs to maneuver. We were a bit out of shape for the daily ups and downs, but the hotel did send us help when we needed to get our luggage and groceries down the stairs to our rooms. We thank them for that. All in all, the Hyatt was wonderful and the area was fantastic.

I exchanged my timeshare unit with Interval International and I got a 2 bedroom at Hyatt Pinon Pointe. This resort is in uptown Sedona overlooking the red rocks. The kitchen is fully equipped and the rooms are spacious. The staff at the conceirge answer all my questions.
I can tell you that choosing Sedona as our Summer vacation destination is one of the best decisions I have made and staying at Hyatt Pinon Pointe made it even one of our best vacations. We fell in love with the natural beauty of the red rocks.

Extremely helpful concierge and all staff. Nice extra activities - Vortex talk, Native American Indian talk, welcome breakfast, etc. Fully appointed rooms - except only a microwave and refridgerator in the studio. Coffee and flavored water in the office area. Very relaxing pool and jacuzzis. Perfect location, great stores, restaurants nearby. Easy drive to all hiking areas. Very nice, relaxing time.

We stayed a week in a trade on our time share. The unit was #1011 A and B. Each were separate units with separate entrances----fine for a family. The place was beautiful; furnishings totally complete. Had two very nice patios, plenty of TVs, great showers . The place to be was at the gorgeous pool and barbeque as well as jacuzzis because the views are incredible from there. Nice workout room. The only disappointment was that many of the rooms are on ground level with no view of anything worth contemplating. It was quiet, however a family with kids that run around was upstairs, but we could overlook that.
A great feature is the shopping center right there within walking distance. Starbucks, of course, a great sushi restaurant that has a nice view and great food, not too expensive. The Wildflower is where everyone hangs out for breakfast. Our favorite (cheap) was two scrambled eggs and a croissant for around $5 total plus coffee if you want.

Earlier this year, we spent a week at Pueblo Bonito Emerald Bay in Mazatlan, Mexico. That hotel was rated some 4 star. But the pool and everything was spectacular. Hyatt Pinon Point, even though carries a Hyatt name, it didn't meet my expectation as far as amenities outside our rooms. The rooms are top notch. Nice Jacuzzi, oversized shower. Bed room, dining table, kitchen, accesories are that of the Hyatt brand and what woulda be expected out of being Hyatt. But the pool, I have to say, was pretty sad. The 'adult' pool is only 3 ft deep and not very big. The kiddie pool is 1 foot deep and have a rectagular shape.. very plain and boring compare to what we're used to in Mexico. There are no bellboy service, no pool boy to take your order by the pool side. The man that's in charge of the towel service seems to be easily confused and can't handle more than two customers at a time. You required to use key card every where you go. Over all, the hotel is pretty quiet. I do see lots of retirees and family with small kids. Not so much of couples. Sedona is a beautiful place and just the drive up to the hotel would take your breath away. The hotel is only 20 mi. from Cottonwood which is a bigger city with a Super-Walmart, JC Penny, Denny's and other chain restaurants. Sedona is also about 8 mi. from another city called 'Big Park' that has other main hotels and also set in a pretty 'red canyon' location. It is a wonderful place to visit. The hotel set up more like apartment villas with parking directly ajacent to your unit. It is a short distance to Flagstaff and not too far from the Grand Canyon - South Rim. One thing that I do appreciate about this hotel (being time share base) is that they don't bother you about selling timeshare like those mexican resorts. We used our timeshare to trade for a two bed room unit. Which is very well worth it.
